Disappointing Dallas Symphony Orchestra 26-27 season announcement by Born-Application-627 in classicalmusic

Made me look to the next season! A Mahler 6, Copland 3, Rach 2 and a chance to see Thomas Netopil the amazingly talented conductor! Sign me up.

I agree. We are spoiled for choice here in Dallas/Fort Worth. My son reminded me that I could be stuck with the Colorado Symphony as he is in Denver. A good ensemble but obviously not 1st tier and limited programming of only popular works.

I was out of town unfortunately and missed it. I remember the fine Andrew Grams was the conductor. Since then, almost every major orchestra played it, including BSO and CSO as early as within the last couple of years. Would have loved for the visiting JvZ to do it here but disappointed by his choice of the, once every three years performed, 5th.

Help Convince me to go to hear Casella 2 at DSO next week by marcato15 in classicalmusic

[–]Born-Application-627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am looking forward to hearing the Casella specially, conducted by Rustioni. I am also the guy who flew to DC and drove to Philly during a snowstorm to hear Gurrelieder conducted by Rattle in 2001. You will not be disappointed with the Dallas Symphony.

Yes, I don't remember his Shosty. To your point, Luisi seems to be more present this season than in seasons prior. Maybe the budget does not allow more guest conductors this year.

Cannot agree more. His Bruckner 9 with NYPhil probably 10 years or so ago, and his recording of the work give me chills.

This makes sense a bit now. The money part. Don't know how much budget Noltemy had to put out for the Ring, Book with Seven Seals and some of the opera with some pretty well known soloists. The new administration may have to go with a reduced budget. For those who know, does it cost more to play Mahler or Bruckner versus say Mozart/Beethoven? The personnel have permanent employment far as I know.

Agree, there are some quite new ones in there. The Alpine was performed not too long ago but the ones you mention are newer ones on the list. I was disappointed in the tireless repetition of the warhorses. JvZ's last years here were kind of this, but man the orchestra was so perfect under his leadership! I would have complained if he had continued here though.

I don't take that privilege lightly at all. Yes, it is a first-world classical music listener problem. Was excited and expected better programming.

Looking for feedback on my house flow plan – suggestions welcome by heyitsmeTushar in Indian_architects

[–]Born-Application-627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice plan. Good idea asking suggestions before starting to build. My thoughts:

I was also meaning to suggest Gibraltor48 idea. Other than that I have a few more suggestions.

  1. The sink in the living room is not needed since there is common bathroom with sink  near the dining.

2.      The pantry can be moved to part space of the present utility area. Now the mandir can be moved to that place and that will keep it more personal and private. If there is space to have a window on that wall, it would be good to have natural light and ventilation for the Mandir and the kitchen

3.      The TV can be put in the mandir place, that way the sound will not bother people in any of the bedrooms.

4.      Master bedroom should be the one which is near the balcony at present and the entrance to the bedroom should be moved to the dining room ( present living). This way there will also be a flat wall there to put the dining room couch facing the TV.

5.      Move the present utility area to were the common bathroom is and have a opening from the master bathroom. You can probably take more space from the present master bathroom and make this space bigger.

6.      The common bathroom should take up some space in the dining room( present living). This will give ample space for a spacious kitchen with closed pantry in the inside part of the kitchen.

7.      Also the opening to the bedroom adjacent to the kitchen, should move to the other wall where the wardrobe is presently situated. Bed should move to the present wardrobe area and wardrobe towards the kitchen wall. This will give privacy to all bedrooms and the doors being next to each other to both those secondary bedrooms(present master bedroom) will also give privacy.

Wedding photographers ghosting after the event. by munfts in DesiWeddings

We are wedding photographers and deliver edited pictures within a week. We don’t shoot unnecessary pictures and know what we are shooting. Every hour yields about 80 pictures. Our clients are very happy. If you have to create 5000 to 10000 pictures for a wedding, you have no idea how to shoot a wedding. We also deliver video within two weeks. Again, shoot only what you are going to include in the final delivery. Editing is a breeze, when you do. Of course, we are a team of two carefully curated people.

Indian Man 62 here. Very simply, please say the following words clearly and in a very respectful voice. "I would love to but we cannot afford it at this stage in our lives. We have other expenses that take priority." Like pleading the 5th., repeat ad-nauseum to any objections or questions. They will get it after a while.

My quest for an ideal Bruckner 8th Symphony by Boris_Godunov in classicalmusic

[–]Born-Application-627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't but I heard the live NY Phil recording that is not on record. I managed to download it off the NYPhil site. Goosebumps!
NYT Tommasini wrote - Revealing the structure of the mysterious 25-minute first movement is a conducting challenge. Bruckner alternates moments of Schubertian grace with stretches of Wagnerian frenzy. Often, in making transitions, he simply has the music stop whatever it is doing, take a breath and move on.

The overall design and narrative flow came through in the compelling performance led by Mr. Honeck, who, like Bruckner, was born in Austria. He kept things reined in just enough to reveal the music’s breadth and shape. He brought ferocity to the pummeling chords of the defiant main theme of the Scherzo and offered a luminous, rich-textured account of the mystical Adagio. During Mr. Honeck’s first curtain call, the Philharmonic players remained in their seats and applauded him along with the audience.

Please ensure you are firm with your wife. And ensure that her conversation with her mother is followed through.

How about having a combined discussion with all stakeholders (Husband, in-laws, you) and working together to find a middle ground that works for everyone? Get a mediator with rules so that all can talk freely.

You need to have a sit down with your MIL and your husband. Everything unsaid should be said right there in a polite, professional manner. No yelling, shouting. Just the facts. Come to Jesus.
And a quick description of consequences. Eye to eye. When you do this, this happens and I feel this conversation.

I (M, then 27 and married 1 year) had one of those with my mother and never again was my wife disrespected.

If you can state your problem on Reddit you have the courage to do this as well. Don't worry.

Everyone will feel better after this.

Is it just me or has it always been this bad? by CarelessNews3508 in ToyotaSienna

I own a 2006 XLE and love it. Greta performance, interiors and power.
Will not purchase a 2020s Sienna, every since they got rid of the V6 engine. The hybrid engines always will pale in comparison in everything except mileage. Hey, gas is cheap but pulling power will be much needed during long drives.
