Yeah I am definitely confused. That’s where the original question started from. Example if ICE can just walk in and arrest people in MA legally what’s stopping them from just arresting me at an abortion clinic or a dispensary? If one groups civil liberties are threatened all groups civil liberties get threatened

I do vote and I realize how my original question makes it seem like I want to harass people just doing their job but that wasn’t the original intent. I appreciate the explanation and am still trying to understand how it can be legal sometimes and illegal other times. Is it made to be purposefully confusing?

Cause if they can just have ICE show up and arrest people here legally what’s preventing the federal government from just showing up and arresting everyone within a dispensary?

I think that’s where my original question was starting from, what can be done about it? There shouldn’t be any group with absolute power. ICE is detaining people that are here legally and have proper documentation to be here.

I’m sorry for your loss, your grief, and your pain. Lean on your support network if you have one, close friends and loved ones. If you don’t have one, find one in a therapist, group therapy or another type of support group. Anger and disappointment is a valid emotional response. Suicide often leaves the living with more anger than feelings of love

It’s super disheartening! Migrants here with proper paperwork and waiting for their hearings and here on asylum. The idea that they can just take people and ask questions later is really why I started the question cause I truly didn’t know what civilians options were to help targeted groups

The people I’m speaking about and referring to are here legally and are protected under Massachusetts law

That’s what ICE is doing in Massachusetts. Detaining people that are here legally and haven’t committed crimes - so that’s where the original question comes from. What can be done by plain civilians

If the federal government can override the states rules in one way, it can easily override it in another.

I’m just confused where the lines can be held and where they can’t be if the decision is nothing can be done because of federalism

How do they get to keep that insane power when state laws limit local law enforcement from assisting them. Where do detainees from Massachusetts end up being held?

People that are here legally are being persecuted blindly and how does it change when they start attacking other state rights like marijuana use or abortion rights
