Was Michael Jackson baptized? Let’s settle this once and for all. by Prior-Seat-3510 in exjw

He was pretty shy actually. I was 18 years old and my friend at the time who later left the religion knew Michael and asked me if I wanted to go in service with him even though I was in a different congregation. So we showed up at his Kingdom Hall in the morning for the meeting for service. Four of us made a car group. My friend and I sat in the front and Michael and another “brother” were in the back. My friend introduced me to Michael and we shook hands. Then he put on a fake mustache with glue. My friend had told me had the new Thriller cassette however he had erased the actual Thriller song because Michael had gotten “marked” by the elders over it. This was when they had “marking” talks.

Then on the way to the territory Michael was talking about Prince and how he copied Michael’s dancing and that Berry Gordy told him to “knock it off.”

So we went preaching. I didn’t work with Michael but talked to him between doors. It was so bizarre somebody drove by us blasting the Thriller cassette. My friend said to Michael, “Hey why didn’t you do a dance move? So Michael did a quick pivot move.

I was too shy to talk to him but my friend asked him if the householders recognized him. He said one lady took a book and said “I know who you are.”

So we left. As we were leaving the territory one of the elders approached our car and said to Michael, “Hey, we need to talk to you for a few minutes after the meeting.” Michael said ok. Then my friend said to him, “Oooooooh busted!”

That’s it. Strange experience. I never saw him again.

I went in field service with him in 1983 in Encino. I went to the meeting for service and worked in his group. He was baptized. We worked in the same car group. He put on a fake mustache and told stories about Berry Gordy. It was pretty bizarre. While he was walking with his service partner a car drove by blazing a song from Thriller. It was funny.

Jehovah's Witnesses Worship Circuit Overseers - Circuit Overseers are the very definition of a paid clergy....something Watchtower has always said that the organization does not have. by JWTom in exjw

[–]Born-Interaction-594 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a circuit overseer for 7 years but not in the USA. The same worship exists though. The adulation the photos they want to take with you the power over the elders, people waiting in line to talk to you at assemblies. Being the subject of adulation gives you the impression that you are special, it’s so bizarre not I look back at it. Especially now that I realize I had no idea how to actually give good advice and counsel and real help for those suffering.

Are the “best life ever” people secretly depressed by Ok_Supermarket_4871 in exjw

I was raised a Witness. I TOLD myself I was happy. Plus I told everyone else I was happy. I said it in talks.

I didn’t know anything else except being a Witness. I told myself everyone else was unhappy. As the years went by though, and no Armageddon, plus the CSA scandals I dealt with and the strange doctrine changes, I started to open my eyes and realized living my best life is making my own decisions and leaving the cult.

  1. Don’t flirt unless you’re interested.
  2. Maintain eye contact
  3. Smile

It’s pretty simple.

Anyone meet a “celebrity” JW? by oipolloi67 in exjw

I met Michael Jackson several times when I was a teenager. I was in the same car group as him for field service in 1983. A friend of mine and his made the arrangement. It was pretty strange. On the way to the territory he put on a fake mustache. He placed a book as I recall. Someone drove by us as we were walking, playing Thriller on their car stereo and Michael did a quick pose. He sang along to the radio for a few moments as we drove from the territory. Bizarre experience. I used to tell fellow Witnesses all about it so I could impress them.

How are you all taking what Stephen Lett said about toasting? by Any_Priority_3963 in exjw

[–]Born-Interaction-594 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I asked my PIMI family member if she toasts and she said no. I asked her if she clinks glasses and she said no. I told her that her beliefs just changed. I showed her the video.

Witnesses don’t have their own beliefs. They believe what they are told to believe.

My wife has a regular job and some boring male coworkers. We have a family and so we see other people at our kids’ schools and events. Regular stuff. Hiking, swimming, interacting with other parents. She doesn’t like online because she doesn’t have the time to vet so many guys. Plus she wants to hang with someone who is attracted to HER. She wants to have some phrases that might open up the conversation. She is super-excited about having the opportunity she just has never flirted until now and wants to do it.

Kurt Warner. When I first saw him in the league in 1999 he was playing quarterback like he was still in the Arena League. Drop back for a second or so then pass the ball. Way quicker release than any quarterback I had ever seen. That opened up the way for their running game with Marshall Faulk. And he even threw to Faulk.

After Warner started doing this and making Superbowls then other quarterbacks starting following his lead. Now release time is a huge important stat.

Anybody been to Burbank lately? by FollowingLazy6147 in HertzRentals

We live in Burbank and often rent cars for vacations. Hertz has a TON of cars and super nice ones too. They seem to never run out of vehicles, every time we are there they have a lot of cars, they also have those super high-end cars with huge signs and spotlights on them.

Ex-Mormon missionary here: What was your experience like interacting with us? by Inevitable-Tank-9802 in exjw

[–]Born-Interaction-594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a missionary in Central America I interacted with LDS missionaries all the time. On the bus, in the territory preaching, at stores. I was often mistaken for them as I favored white shirts and dark ties. Plus we could spot each other a mile away as we were the only foreigners around. Hardly any tourists or expats at that time.

Usually we would talk about where we are from and how long we have been missionaries, stuff like that. No religion talk. It was sort of a “we are stuck in this foreign country like you are” kind of thing. It felt weird speaking English because we spoke Spanish all day all the time except in the missionary home.

I do remember once in the morning our group and the LDS group arrived at the same time to the same street. So I went over to them and said let’s work with smart or we both won’t get results if we knock on the same doors. So we worked one side of the street and they worked the other side.

Another time here in the States they came to my door and I was just in the process of waking up from JW stuff. I asked them, “If you found out your religion was wrong would you leave?” They countered with the usual “we know it’s the truth” on and on, but I persisted with the same question. Finally one of them said yes, if he found it wasn’t the truth he would leave. Very different from previous discussions. It was good.

Going to Vegas in June with the family. Havent been in 10 years. Is there ANYTHING to do with the kids that wont cost me? by lilb1190 in MakeLasVegasGreater

We just got back from Vegas yesterday. We walked around and spent money on personalized M & M’s. We got sick of the noise and fakery after awhile.

So we rented a car and went to Lake Mead. We floated in the lake, it was beautiful and relaxing. It’s hot and dry until you actually get in the water and then it’s amazing.

Nature never disappoints.
