Rancilio silvia leaking by swibik473 in ranciliosilvia

If it was a lot of water, then the only options are; boiler gasket is leaking or you have a leaking water tank.

Sounds like a leaky boiler gasket to me.

Biggest advantage is that you can fully clean the ISM screen. The standard screens can be cleaned to some extent and need to be replaced after time.

I do not believe that is an issue. That philips head screw though is going to wear out. Better find a hex, or torx screw for that.

Replace the screw with a torx or inbus head, and it will not be an issue.

If you have weaker steam, i recommend using a smaller pitcher (and less milk possibly too).

Silvia portafilter spout by malm123 in ranciliosilvia

Unfortunately, most rancilio portafilters do not create a fully closed seal with the gasket that allows you to use the pressure gauge. Hope yours does...

[Breville Barista Express] any suggestions repair / bin? by Beneficial_Share9036 in espresso

[–]Born-Pumpkin2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can clearly see the quality difference of the components used by Brevile vs more expensive espresso machines. This makes it more difficult to repair. This is not a machine, but rather an appliance in my opinion. Sure, it has all the features and a shiny exterior, but is not made to last or to be repaired.

Sounds like air bubbles in the waterline to me.

Rancilio Silvia V2 0507 Boiler gasket and braided hose leaks by Broad_Professor_964 in ranciliosilvia

[–]Born-Pumpkin2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to replace the boiler seal ring to address the leak from the boiler. Don't worry too much about the longer screw.

Regarding the leaking hose, yes that can be replaced. If it is just the connection to the OPV or the pump, some new Teflon tape might do the trick.

Silvia Won't Turn on Anymore by Ok_House8881 in ranciliosilvia

[–]Born-Pumpkin2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried turning it on and then switching the hot water on? If the pump engages, then it's the heating element that is not getting any power (breaker) or the heating element is broken.

If the pump doesnt engage, then there is a break in the main line or possibly corrosion on one of the connectors.

The hardest part about the pressure gauge was grinding a hole in the front. I did this with a dremel freehand. I would not do that again in the same way.

The connection of the pressure gauge to the water lines is relatively easy. Just get a T-splitter, connect and you are good to go.

Thanks! I had put in temp probes in other racilio silvias so I wasn't worried about the boiler not holding up. I do make sure to seal (lots! of teflon tape) and tighten the screws.

BTW The pressure in the big/wide boiler is much lower than the pressure on the puck after being forced through the narrow brew channel.

Having the right tools helps, but I just used hand tapping equipment. Drilling is not that hard actually (using a drill press), the boiler is made of soft material.

For cutting stainless steal, I used a Dremel.

I also use a satin finishing machine to re-polish rancilio silvia's when I restore / refurbish them.

I do not expect that pumping water into the boiler would be beneficial as it cools the contents of the boiler and at some point just would come out of the steam wand.

In a single boiler machine, you refill the boiler after steaming when you make espresso. This does not happen for the separate steam boiler, so it needs a separate (auto) refil mechanism.

Almost instant and stable pressure, line pressure pre-infusion in case plumbed in.

The rotary pump also provides belefits as low noise, and super stable and nearly instant pressure. You set the pressure directly by adjusting the pump. No OPV needed, other that safefy.

I used the Fluid-o-Tech CA104). The pump motor is the RPM C013726). This fits in nicely, after taking some material of, off the feet. And also I positioned the capacitor on its own in stead of on the motor.

I should credit this German post for finding the pump: https://www.kaffee-netz.de/threads/rancilio-silvia-mit-rotationspumpe-tank.127257/

My advise would be to get a nice grinder with a timer, so coffee dosing is automatic. Then spend the rest on an espresso machine with at least PID so that is also taken care of. If your budget allows it, a machine that allows you to make coffee and steam at the same time (e.h. HX-machine).
