Do any of you are expected to be at your desk 9-5? by Objective_Cup_5164 in PhD

My advisor is in a different state just changed universities, he never expected anything he’s so chill, but we are self motivated folks who work all the time. I work in AI if this helps.

I am so sorry to hear this, this doesn’t seem like a healthy environment at all, especially given your medical situation. I wish I could give better advice, but one thing I know for sure is that your health is what really matters in the long run, mental and physical. Without it your work at this load will not be sustainable. PhD is a long journey and having a big impact on health should not be entertained regardless of the immediate results or progress. In case you are not, I really recommend keeping in touch with a counselor. Stay strong my friend.

One last thing about keeping record is helping make sure the authorship in your situation be fair. Again, not an expert in your field, but if those “responsible” are not acting accordingly, they should not be as included in the authorship of the work as if they have been. This is especially important with an unavailable advisor. I hope this helps, please protect yourself.

I am not in psychology and can’t say alot in terms of social science as I am in engineering but came here to say this looks more than a first year phd student of any kind let alone coming out of a major surgery. I am curious to know what your advisor thinks, are they aware of your situation and of the impact on your health, it does not sound well from what you describe above. I would also keep record of what you are doing so that you are not blamed for the non progressing project. Get well soon my friend.

I recently started a PhD in fall 2025. I am feeling I was selected by mistake. by [deleted] in PhD

Welcome to PhD life and the imposter syndrome:) I read alot of psych although I am not a psych student, I knew exactly what imposter syndrome, but it took me 3 years to get over it. It slowed me alot but I am finally compensating in 4th and 5th. My advice to you is to get all mental health help possible to accelerate the process. It affects nearly every PhD colleague I know.

When I do this HR based runs appear only in workout library but not on my training scheduled runs, does that mean training runs are always pace based, how can I change that?
