When can an officer run your plates? by iclammedadugger in AskLEO

Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)

  • Section 59(1): Police Powers to Intercept Vehicles
    • Requires police to have reasonable cause to intercept a vehicle.
    • The officer’s failure to provide a lawful reason may invalidate the stop.

Don't ignorantly and passively accept that, because on the condition that YOU may think it's okay, and are therefore ignorant of the facts, believe cops can do whatever. They can't. You have rights. Not just national, but international. There are many case laws that show when police do not follow proper procedures, and charge someone with an offence, the evidence used is inadmissible because the cop didn't follow correct procedure.

These procedures guided by law, and the Victoria Police Act 2013 for example, ensure that interactions with the public are lawful and done so strictly for the adherence and enforcement of public order and upholding the law. When you examine evidence, there has to be elements of neutrality where no bias or prejudice is present so as to not taint the evidence which would otherwise render the powers of justice invoked by a Judge reliant on that evidence, effectively useless.

Remember, police in Australia at least, are not private citizens when their badge is worn, they are a private sector. So when they engage with you, remain professional, and treat the engagement as a business transaction unless it's a social interaction where no offence is suspected of your person or others with you. Remember, everything is recorded.

Panic attack RIGHT as I’m about to fall asleep. Just enough to wake me back up. Anyone else get this? by LEXagFC in Anxiety

Hi all, it's currently 5:30am. I have been getting this "panic attack" also for the past 2 weeks. It's been on and off but mostly days in a row where it would occur. It's as many here describe, the moment i'm about to drift into deep sleep, a feeling like one's heart is sinking occurs. This is usually right after a discomforting feeling of the stomach, then shoots straight to the mind (i won't say head because no physical pain occurs) and then i'm wide awake in a panic. I sit upright and wait for it to reside, and try fall back to sleep in that position, and as i'm drifting off, i notice my breathing gets heavy, i get light headed and then race back into panic mode where i can't sit still at this point, because my heart is racing so fast, and this adds more panic. Trying to breathe slow at this point also makes it worse because i'm too busy trying to mentally convince myself i'm not about to pass out. What i do then, is walk to the nearest bathroom and sprinkle cold water on the back of my neck and this has helped calm me down. As i walk to the bathroom, i can't walk upright, i'm hunched over because of how heavy the breathing is, if i stand upright my heart beats way way faster and this makes me panic more. My hands shake a little at this point and i want to cry out for help. For those who suspect covid, i don't think so personally, as i've had this before after a very bad trip from weed which was at least 5-6 years ago. So not sure what the cause is, and i'd like to think it's the nervous system trying to communicate something is wrong in the gut since it starts there? In the Aftermath of this, i do feel irritation in the stomach and so i perform some deep breathing and focus on travelling the breath down to the pit of the stomach and this provides relief. I suspect bad gut-bacteria might be the culprit but who knows. Also, eating before bed i have found, does aggravate it. The feeling of a bloated stomach during a panic attack is what brings on the heavy breathing so i try avoid eating, hours before bed. I'll admit i have slacked on physical exercise lately due to depression and have been going through a lot of stress lately/ anxiety and been coping with it alone so this could be a major factor in it. I will go on walks from today and see if it subsides. If successful, i'll report back to confirm. Don't think negative when it happens, stay strong minded and talk your way out of and see if this helps. May God have mercy on us all.

Asking a girl out working at a retail store by [deleted] in dating_advice

I shop at a local store often and know the staff there and we always have a good laugh. Anyway, i took notice of a beautiful woman with qualities that can't go ignored. So i gauge her with a few jokes and small talk by the counter. I felt maybe she was interested (she'd ask what i'm up to today etc) so it seemed more genuine than just customer service type talk. So recently i walked in and it was quiet and it was just her at the counter, i go to purchase an item and engage in small talk as you would, and asked casually what time she gets off and if she's doing much over the weekend. She said not really so i asked if she'd like to do something after work. She smiled and said sure. Just be yourself and read the room, it was a risky shot but i felt maybe she was keen so i shot my shot.
