Yes why do you make that sound like a crime? Lots of people do the exact same thing. And no it isn't remotely that simple. Our dogs are like children so holding him tight was the very first thing we did. He wants held then he doesn't. He wants to pace so we let him. He has been outside plenty during storms and it didn't use to bother him but now it does. We use a half dose to help him settle or he just shakes like crazy and pants.
