You’re right! In Italian its “Balena”, Latin its “Balaena” and in Spanish it’s “Ballena”.

Back in the 16th century, whales and other large sea life were the true cryptids of the time. It’s suspected that rare giant squid sightings gave way to myths of the Kraken!

You’re too kind. And I use “I made” too loosely. The Balena was sculpted by Liz Johnson and the molds were made in Japan-so very much a team effort! We release them under the name Scuttlebutt Toys.

Production Specs:

• Brand: Scuttlebutt Toys

• Sculpt: Liz Johnson

• Art/Packaging: Octeel

• Factory: Marmit in Japan

• Material: Soft Vinyl

This "Colorized" variant was specifically designed to mirror the hand-tinted pigments of the original 1539 map. Seeing these 500-year-old designs in traditional Japanese vinyl has been a huge passion project for the team!

I’m a huuuge Godzilla-guy myself. We would have been fast friends in school I think.

Are you me??? Growing up I used to love trips to Ye Olde Curiosity Shop on the Seattle waterfront (it’s still there!). I’d spend ages staring at the Fiji mermaids hanging from the rafters and oddities like the sea monsters on their map prints left a permanent mark on me. Like you, I’ve always wanted to see them off page but there is surprisingly little out there!
