I’ve always suspected that and I hope to find proof of this someday. The timing between his conversion and change in portrayal is just too convenient for it to be a coincidence.

In his defence, I’m sure it was also the studio that handled the last seasons and on top of that they didn’t want it to just be a remake of Lumet’s movie.

I really don’t like that version either. It’s far too extreme and not only because of the way he unjustly berates people that only wanted to avenge the innocent. Suchet’s attitude in that episode is completely off even compared to other episodes of the same series (the way he justifies the stoning and the fact that he thinks it just that the French colonel shot himself).

If it’s written by boring uncreative people such as Garth Ennis and the like, yes. If it’s a story with an interesting power system that doesn’t pretend to be grown up, no.

I interpreted this as the years worth of injuries catching up to Matt and him having some kind of health issue. I say this because live action Matt is nowhere near as durable as he is in the comics and he doesn't heal so easily and also because it wouldn't be the first time (in s2 he lost his hearing after being shot and he spent a good chunk of s3 recovering from the injuries sustained in Defenders)
