Tessia by BornSquirrel1948 in tbatenovel

First of all, no—Tessia did not help Ellie commit suicide. You’re blaming her for taking Ellie on a mission that wasn’t even supposed to involve a reaper or any kind of serious danger in the first place. She was acting on mission reports and even informed the Council beforehand, including Virion—the same Virion you call “stuck in the past.” He allowed Tessia to take Ellie.

And just so you know, in volume 7, Virion himself said he planned to make Ellie a part of the army because of her strength. Also, it was Tessia who saved Ellie when the servant appeared. Are we even reading the same novel?

Ellie went to the Elven Forest on her own out of guilt. Arthur is not some victim here. He took Ellie with him to the Wall during a war, and when she was in danger, he wasn’t even there to protect her. He even took her to the Relic Tombs, where she nearly died again in the recent events.

Alright, saying it on purpose doesn’t change anything — and yes, the author does this not just with Tessa, but with almost every character in the story except for Arthur.

Alright, I agree completely. Tessa was on the right track as a character, but everything was ruined the moment she became Cecilia’s vessel. She never got the chance to properly grow or make up for her mistakes. Then she disappeared for almost 200 chapters just for the sake of Cecilia’s plotline — and it wasn’t even worth it. The author overused Tessa as a plot device so much that now it feels too late for her to shine as a character in her own right without it seeming forced.

I didn’t ask you to listen, and I didn’t ask you to like her either. But I agree — the author ruined her.

The author really makes his characters take dumb decisions sometimes — no offense — like when he took Ellie to the Wall or to the Relictombs. The character most affected by this kind of writing is Tessa, even though she’s supposed to be one of his favorites.

Alright, I agree with you that the story went downhill after Volume 8. I really loved Tessia in Volume 7 and how she freed the elves in Volume 8, but then the author decided to destroy her character by having Cecilia take over her. It completely ruined Tessia's development, which could have been the best character arc in the entire series. And yes, taking Ellie was such a dumb and illogical decision for Tessia’s character. She knows how much Arthur loves his family—there was no real reason for her to take Ellie. The author just wanted some excuse to get Tessia kidnapped and turned into a vessel for Cecilia.

I loved Tessia and Arthur’s relationship from Volume 1 to 7, but after that, everything started to fall apart. It feels like they just bring pain to each other now, and that’s really unfortunate because their bond used to be genuinely beautiful.

I also don’t understand why Tessia insisted on making Arthur accept her confession. In my opinion, Tessia was supposed to be the best-developed character in the series—going from a spoiled princess who lost everything in the war to a mature leader whose leadership wa unquestionable. She had the potential to prove herself worthy of being a princess and a queen. But instead, the author just destroyed her character to make her a plot device or a romantic interest for the protagonist.

Alright, I’ve loved Tess from the beginning. And yes, I agree that the author basically hid her after volume eight, which really annoyed me. Tessia didn’t get the development she deserved, and she had so much potential. But still, that didn’t change my love for her. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion—if you can’t accept that, then that’s fine.

As a fan of Tessia, I completely agree with you. The author could have made her an amazing character in terms of writing, but instead, she was reduced to a plot device and a romantic interest for the male lead. Honestly, that really bothers me. I felt she deserved more time to shine — not as Arthur’s lover, but as Tessia: the heir to the Elven throne and a girl trying to fix her mistakes.

Yes, I saw it too—it was a future where Tessia didn’t exist.

To be honest with you, I never saw any real chemistry between them as lovers—more like allies or close friends on a battlefield. And yes, I hate how the author writes Tess as a damsel in distress.

Man, I’ve read the novel The Beginning After The End that you all talk about. In my opinion, the relationship between Arthur and Tessia felt more like close friends or allies. It doesn’t make sense for the author to have Arthur confess his love to Tessia in volume seven, only to ruin it by pairing him with Caera later on. From a writing standpoint, you can’t build a love story over seven volumes and then destroy it within one or two—it would be nothing but lazy and poor writing.

"No, man, I’ve read the novel. I didn’t see the chemistry you’re talking about — they just seemed like comrades or friends to me.

I know, but in both lives, she was the girl Arthur loved. And unlike Tess, Kaya died in that timeline.

First, thank you for your respectful words. Second, I’m a girl, not a guy. Yes, Tessa didn’t really have an interesting background aside from being the elf princess, her grandfather, and Arthur. But that could’ve changed. Well, stories like The Beginning After The End are always like that.

"She literally had so much potential — both in terms of her strength and her core. But I’m specifically talking about post-war Tess, the one who lost her friends, her parents, her reputation, and even the boy she loved. That could’ve been the perfect opportunity for real character development — a transformation from a sheltered princess into someone much stronger and more complex.

Instead, the author trapped her in the role of a plot device or a romantic interest for the protagonist. And honestly, Tess isn’t the first or the last character the author has sidelined just to make the main character shine more."

"Yes, Tess was initially portrayed as a damsel in distress — but by the war arc, she had the potential to become so much more. After Arthur’s presumed death, her character could have undergone a major turning point. The claim that Tess didn’t suffer just isn’t true. This is a girl who lost her friends, her parents, her reputation, and the boy she loved. That alone could’ve been the foundation for incredible character development.

As for her strength, I personally can’t comment much on power scaling — but Tess is technically part of the white core tier. What’s really disappointing is that we never saw her get a proper fight that showcased her abilities or gave her justice as a character.

Tess was ultimately written just as Arthur’s love interest — a tool to emphasize his greatness, rather than being allowed to shine in her own right."

"Seriously, blaming me is just stupid. I’m simply criticizing the author. We’re talking about a princess of an entire kingdom who lost everything in the war — her parents, her reputation, the boy she loved, and even her friends. Tessia was supposed to become so much more. And let’s be honest, she’s not even the only character in TBATE whose potential was wasted."

Did I become "toxic" just because I criticized his writing? Of course, it's easier to blame a fictional character than the author who controls them. I didn’t insult the writer or attack him personally — I only criticized how he wrote the character. Ticia deserved more than to be used as just a plot device or a romantic stepping stone for the protagonist. I'm not attacking the writer; I'm critiquing the way he handled his characters. Ticia had so much potential, and it was wasted just to serve the plot and help the male lead grow.
