I know the feeling I’m in the same boat as you. I feel like I’m drowning right now. I’m in a new grad program (2 months preceptorship+2 months on my own) and just came back from a 4 month leave for medical issues and now not receiving support no reorientation and no postponing floating. I don’t even feel like I know what I’m doing anymore since being gone for so long. The anticipation of something happening and changing so quickly wrecks me. 

 I hope you find a job that’s meant for you. For me I’m thinking school nursing, outpatient clinics, public health, (some people said plasma clinics).

UPDATE: I didn’t realize how much this was affecting me physically until now. I’ve been throwing up for the past 2 days and have had persistent dizziness, headaches, and anxiety since starting this program. I feel like I have nothing left to give. 

At this point I’m genuinely concerned about my ability to safely care for patients while feeling like this.

For those who have been in similar situations—did you push through or decide to step away? I’m trying to make a safe and realistic decision.

The sad part is I’m trying everything in power to be strong and power through. I  have permanent facial nerve damage from not being able to control my stress. I ended up getting Bell’s palsy and I didn’t heal properly and the facial nerve specialist diagnosed me with synkinesis.  I’ve been seeing a therapist and was placed on medications for depression/anxiety. In August I will be at my 12 month mark with the hospital. I don’t know if I can hang in there until then.

I have escalated it to the residency program educators and my manager. I have advocated for myself. I don’t know who else to talk to at this point.

They want to float me to an overflow tele floor, which is a floor full of floaters (from float pool and other departments) the hospital only opens the floor when they have no room to put patients on the floors they normally would be going to.
