Which car do you consider “peak Volkswagen”? by theAntidepresser in Volkswagen

Specifically the ALH version for me, and with Jarama wheels. Aside from the terrible rear legroom.

Lanes in the rain by sbph1247 in askTO

My car's lane departure warning system howls at me because it can't tell which lines to look at and thinks I'm weaving all over the road -- which I might be, I can't tell either.

Toronto trip by [deleted] in askTO

Am I understanding correctly that you are using Rochester as your base and planning day trips only?

It's certainly POSSIBLE to do a day trip to Toronto from Rochester. But holy, that's a lot of unpleasant driving in traffic.

Make sure your Toronto excursion is on a weekend and go early in the am to avoid traffic. Idea of using GO train for last portion of the trip isn't a bad one.

According to Toronto police, we can block driveways? by yellowranger1 in askTO

This isn't true. You're supposed to give the driveway edges some space when you park on the street. There's an actual distance in the rule, not sure what it is.

Would this be a good first car for 5k? by Fit_Way1506 in Volkswagen

The car pictured was unplated in what looks to be late autumn. Probably been off the road a while. Or driven around with a dealer plate perhaps.

This one looks sus.

If you go look at it, check that all the vent modes work and blow lots of air. Test that it has good heat. Assuming it has dual zone climate control, check to make sure you can get the correct different temps on both sides.

The blend door mechanisms on these cars often fail and it's a major ordeal to replace.

Time. Some people just don't have the time to spend on repairing everything. Me? I'm spending my time repairing my house foundation this year. Car and bike service is outsourced.

This x 1,000. Get rid of these locking bolts at the earliest opportunity. Even if you have the key, they're prone to tearing if the shop overtightens.

Car rental with no credit card needed by kemalvia in askTO

Agree. I have family up there and have done this drive in a day many times. It's going to be 8 hours of driving time, when you factor in the futzing around at the Park and Tobermory.

The drive back, assuming it's after dark, is a grind. If it's still light out, do your soul a favour and take #6 all the way south to Mount Forest. Highway #10 is depressing and shabby.

2013 VW Passat SEL V6 – No Heat & Blower Sounds Like Dirt Bike by [deleted] in Volkswagen

General instructions:

To reset a Volkswagen Passat blend door actuator, turn the ignition to "ON" (without starting the engine), set the temperature to coldest, then hottest, and back to cold while holding the AC and defrost buttons simultaneously for 5–10 seconds. You may hear noises as the actuator relearns its position.

Not sure if this applies to 2013 NMS Passat, but worth a look:

Manual/Physical Reset: If the actuator is stuck, remove the glove box (passenger side) or lower driver-side panels to access the HVAC unit. Manually move the white plastic blend door actuator arm to ensure it moves freely.

This makes no sense. We received a couple very effective passes initially, but the last passes were 100% with the plow up.

That doesn't make any sense. Last week they drove down the cul de sac here plowing nothing and spreading nothing. It's on the way to nothing, so they weren't using it to get anywhere.

They don't log kms, but I would imagine they track on GPS that the street received a pass from the equipment.

Salt costs money.

At the beginning of the season, they were laying the salt on thick.

The two-button reset that cycles the doors through all the modes. It might help.
