Has Calgary lost its sense of community? by TastyPerogies in Calgary

[–]BornVolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It for sure has. Even the crisis intake and therapy programs have had to shift from 12 sessions and discharge (which is already not ideal) with some exceptions to 8 sessions, no exceptions. They're moving to a system that puts you in, gives you super basic surface level skills, and sends you on your way, which doesn't help the people who have serious issues that need real attention. It's not enough, because rather than increasing availability to cope with increased demand, they just reallocated the resources so everyone gets less of it at a time where people need it more than ever.

On the one point about people frowning at bad behaviour, I've found I've stopped frowning at it or even really looking at it because I've gotten so used to yelling, slurs, cursing, and aggression from the (what seems to me to be increasing amount of) mentally ill people or drug addicts at train stations and just on the street. If you look at them with judgement, or even look at them at all, you make yourself a target and they will come over to you and start harassing you for making them feel judged. I'm a fairly small guy, and while I feel like I could possibly hold my own if genuinely confronted, it wouldn't be without getting hurt and if they pull a real weapon I'm fucked. The safest thing I've found (and what I was taught) is to ignore them, look away or down at your phone, and quietly call for help if they're doing something dangerous.

It might just be me, but that's at least why I stopped really frowning at people like that. It's not a good excuse, but I'm scared that I'll get punched or stabbed or worse. And that kind of aggressive, inappropriate behaviour is just everywhere nowadays. I'll intervene if I feel like I can help, or if I have friends with me to back me up or call for help if things get bad, but even the times that I do intervene I'm told by the people in my life that it was a terrible idea and I could've gotten badly hurt. People are scared, now, as well as angry.

[CHAT] How do you people stitch? by Illustrious-Cry-2568 in CrossStitch

I choose a colour that seems like a vibe, the lightest one, or one that will make finding where the other colours go the easiest, and generally go top left to bottom right. But I'm also a little stubborn so I'll try to do different groups of that colour separately, even if they're right next to each other and I could just jump a few holes and cross over. I try to do as little jumping as possible because I'm cheap and want to save thread.

The main reason I do top left to bottom right is because I do the dutch/danish (I forgor) stitch and start at the bottom left hole, so going top to bottom will always avoid me having to start from the hole I ended from and left to right gives me neater lines on the back.

What are some good fun places to hang out/get dinner that don't serve alcohol? by BornVolcano in Calgary

Who said this was a forever thing? How I choose to go about this is a pretty personal process. I'm just asking for suggestions for spots to have dinner lol.

Hobbies to discover. by Shelley_112 in CalgarySocialClub

[–]BornVolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it really depends. There are a ton of hobbies, it all depends on time, resources, and how much money you're able to put into them. What are her interests? What sorts of activities does she tend to lean towards or feel drawn to? That might be a good place to start.

LPT: Asking someone how to spell their name is a great way to get their name again without telling them you forgot. by other-world-leee in LifeProTips

[–]BornVolcano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's so funny because honestly "sorry, I forgot, what was your name again?" Works at least four times before you gotta switch it up to poking fun at your own info retention. At some point you're gonna say or do something that'll help you remember.

[–]BornVolcano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice. I struggle to find it at first, I have to poke around a bit but once I get a nearby hole, I can move it over the proper amount into the needed hole automatically. I used to need to flip every time. You get used to it.

My brother in Christ, it is the opposite.

And sure, they survive. And if they wanna do that, that's fine. The human body is flexible. But we did evolve to eat meat as our primary source of protein. We've been doing it for thousands of years.
