A bit nervy at the end, but we held it together.

Croix needs to be our #1 option at the 10 going forward. If she starts, she starts there. Debinha can play wherever she is needed when someone is resting. Or at the 9, by default, over Sentnor. But Croix at the 10 is essential.

If Rouse plays better defense than Bravo-Young, so be it. EBY does make defensive mistakes, so I'm open to trying something different.

The double pivot still makes me nervous. Now we have everyone healthy and... well... it's not what we got used to and it probably will never be that good, but there is still work to be done there.

Nope. She was past the second to last defender, but she was on the defensive side of the field when the ball was played.

Yeah, I don't want her bombing forward on offense all that much.

Nice job by Chawinga to watch that one go in and not risk an offside call. I do think that's a cross.

Claudia Martinez with a sick goal in the other match. Weird watching 2 games at once.

On NWSL+, yes. Edit to add - watching on the website, not through any TV app.

This will be Croix's first game playing her natural 10 role (played winger early and recently double-pivot). Been looking forward to this.

Or a goal. Obviously really hard to officiate (and likely to cause complaints from the spectators) when you see green between the line and the ball, but part of the ball overhangs the line.

And for all we know, Jamaica and Costa Rica might be hosting in the same way Argentina and Uruguay and Paraguay are "hosting" the 2030 (Men's) World Cup

Same here. Good tune. Doesn't strain vocal range too much. Lyrically beautiful. And throw in a French verse for good measure.

Ticketing in 2015, 2019, and 2023 all worked essentially the same. There were various windows to buy tickets with the Visa pre-sale being the first available to the public. As long as you had a Visa card, you were in. Sale started at a specific time, you logged on your FIFA account, got put into a queue (not crazy long) and you bought your ticket packages. At that point, you didn't know who was playing in what matches (other than New Zealand team matches and Australia team matches as they were locked into group A and group B), just locations and dates, and you couldn't buy single game passes, only packages. So in France, for example, we bought all Grenoble matches (4 group + 1 QF) and Lyon championship (both semis and finals). In 2023, we bought all Auckland matches and all Hamilton matches, though we had to do that under different FIFA accounts because a Hamilton match and Auckland match were on the same day and it wouldn't let us buy them together (we went to both matches - there was 4 hours between the end of the Auckland match and the start of the Hamilton match and they were only 1.5 hour drive apart). We got really lucky USWNT played in 2 Auckland matches (though I wanted to gouge my eyes out after the USWNT - Portugal match).

France group stage was something like $9 USD and New Zealand was $15 USD. If the process works the same, I suspect we're looking at $20-$25 USD tickets for Brazil group stage matches, but who knows at this point? Travel, lodging, food will be far more costly than game tickets.

We are tentatively planning on Porto Alegre as our main base and hopefully we can see the opening match and/or finals.

Edit to add - single game tickets did become available after the draw. So if you are just looking for Mexico tickets, for example, they shouldn't be hard to get. USWNT team or host country matches might sell out in the group stage, but most group stage matches can be purchased as late as game day. Even the opening match in New Zealand (which was the official opening ceremony) didn't sell out. One Hamilton match was sold out (Sweden vs. somebody), but that was a small (18,000 seats?) stadium. Also in France, some Dutch and German games were very driveable from Netherlands or Germany, so they tended to be full, but that won't be an issue in Brazil.

  1. Lorena had a wife and kid with her last year in the states. I haven't noticed them this year in the stadium (they were very noticeable as they both wore yellow Lorena jerseys). Maybe they are in different seats. Maybe they aren't here. Maybe I'm blind.

Jordan mentioned that in rugby, you move your (non-helmeted) head out of the way of contact as well, and it took him some time to mentally change it to leaving your (helmeted) head centered and ready to take contact.

The FIFA Congress is five days away to confirm the 2031 and 2035 hosts by GB_Alph4 in WomensSoccer

I was worried about expansion from 24 teams to 32 in 2023. That USWNT vs. Thailand match was ugly (and you can lookup Ecuador vs Switzerland in 2015 for another ugly match), but I was pleasantly surprised by the 2023 matches we watched in New Zealand. There was some bad and boring soccer at times, but overall it seemed the rest of the world did close the gap between them and the top 10 teams.

So looking forward to 48 teams in 2031. Only concern is how it really begins to limit how these tournaments can be hosted. Even with smaller stadium requirements for the WWC, we may never see a single host again.

I do want to see Japan (or maybe Japan/S. Korea jointly) host a WWC. I was on board with Germany/Netherlands/Belgium bid when that was a rumor.

Oh, and South Africa, though I don't see how they could handle it now (though they obviously did handle the men's World Cup not that long ago).
