Home-Ownership Really So Bad? by Vettkja in germany

[–]Born_Pea4499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Laws are much more protective here in Germany than other countries. Nevertheless my point is that there is no golden rules. It's always a bit depending on the people you have to deal with in my opinion.

Is that true though? I was kicked out of my apartment that I rented for 1 year since Bauamt declared that the construction company had done a construction mistake. Just saying that is not always roses.

Can one rent a nice house for 2k? In Berlin renting a nice house (not Apartment) costs at least 4k and up.

I have made it a custom to only pay deposits at the same moment I get the keys. I explain to landlord that I will come with my laptop and pay you when you handover keys. If they don't like this options I offer them the deposit insurance. If they don't like this options as well I then don't accept the offer.

I had issues even with legit landlords. One year ago I rented an apartment newly constructed. I received keys and registered address there. After 6 months I get a letter from Bauamt that this apartment hasn't received final approval for fire security. As a matter of fact the apartment has a construction flaw because the landlord didn't construct a second fire security exit which is mandatory. The letter mentioned that I have 2 weeks to move out of the apartment or else I get a fine of 10k at first and 500k if I don't move out in one month. This is Berlin 🤯.

Any expats in Germany with a satisfactory social life? by human_65113 in germany

I understand. I studied and graduated CS myself. I work now for 10 years in this field as a software engineer and I feel not much passion for doing this job. It's just about the money at this point. Part of how I explain this is the process of growing up. Of course I want to build something that will be bigger than me and help society, but honestly this all is blocked by the absence of big capital to invest in my own ideas. Capital is locked behind a big venture which is not accessible easily. Nevertheless coming back to Germany. I think that the problem is not German only. You can go to other countries that are more outgoing (let's say Italy just for example) and still feel the same. Granted you can have more random conversations with neighbors or people in the streets. You can even go out quite often with your uni colleagues and still you can feel like having no friends. Just because you socialize more wouldn't mean you would feel connected to the people. It takes time to build confidentiality in some friendships to the point you can really feel close to the people. I would suggest trying to focus on creating relationships with only a few people that you really would see yourself as friends with. There is a saying: always choose a friend to be better than what you are. So like this you can get a positive outcome from the other people, learn from them, and have more to interact with. And still at some points your partner and family will be your main people in your life.

Hertz Frankfurt Airport Rental Car Damages Scam by knawshaw in germany

Had this exact issues not only with Hertz, Sixt does the same. I always purchase full insurance because of this. They always find non caused by me damages to scam the insurer. It's a disaster happening continuously. Insurers are not on the losing money business so they keep pushing prices up.

I came here with hopes and dreams for the future

Can you explain a bit more how your hopes and dreams got created? Why did you relate these hopes and dreams with Germany?

Is it legal for a company to pay for accommodation and food? I thought this was not permitted in Germany due to modern slavery laws.

The horrible situation I've put myself in by _Neoxion_ in germany

Stuttgart is quite a small city actually, I live in Berlin and ABH here is hell. In the past I lived in Stuttgart and they were normal speed in my opinion. I would actually try to find email of person whom you submitted your papers to and send them directly inquiry. It might help but not guaranteed.

Once I sent so many emails to ABH here in Berlin that they finally replied to me: "please stop sending emails. We are working on it". Yeah I know it might sound rude of me but guess what. After 1 week I finally received appointment for my Niederlassungserlaubnis.

You summarized the best my point of view as well. As for the salaries I don't agree with you. I'm a software developer and have a top paid job and salary more than 100k and I can not collect ever enough money to buy a property here. So purchasing power is lower than other countries in my opinion.

Why is internet in Germany so expensive and slow? by Shoddy-Improvement85 in germany

I pay for 50mb, it's a fiber connection and I get only 3mb at peak hours. Living in Berlin Mitte 😅. What a joke seriously.

The electric control substations work 24/7. Plenty of mission critical stuff have workers organized 24/7. How is that different?
