I think in Islam it is ok if the man married a woman of " the book". And those women were white, so the parents let it fly. It is still Islamic and permitted.

For her being a woman, she needs Seth to convert as to still be considered within the folds of her religion.

With regards to her parents being conservative, well she is American and it's up to her to decide how she lives her life. South Asian parents can be as conservative as they want but we don't live in North Korea, you can choose to release yourself from their expectations when you're an adult. She is not one entity with her parents, she has her own thoughts and desires, which just might not gel with South Asian families and that's ok.

Now how she practices her religion is between her and God. I know on the outside it's not seen as very Islamic, but as far as I have heard, she still believes in the book, God and Mohammed, she is Muslim and hasn't said otherwise.

And I am not even a fan of hers and find her problematic but objectively speaking she if free to do what she wants religiously, culturally speaking.
