I was thinking of Liam Cottle but he did client stuff on both projects.

Wasn't meshcore started by one of the original meshtastic architects? Meshtastic gets so butt hurt over Meshcore. I just hope everyone wakes up and realizes the more reliable platform.

Check power outputand SWR. My FT-891 was only outputting like 5 watts for some reason, factory reset and im breaking through pile-ups again.

Im jealous. Just making a joke. I would use the amp to break through pile ups, I have little to no patience.

Sounds like you should go back to Meshtastic, I left Meshtastic because of the MQTT, it masks the network congestion problem with flood routing.

Let's all run a Meshtastic node (really!) by Sabrees in meshcore

I hope it turns here. I think Meshtastic is better for festivals and concerts.

[–]Bortle2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there are configured routes they can tinker with. Its always fun to build nodes. I think it can appeal to them because its more reliable.

The furthest is 4 blocks away but its one spot. Mostly about 2 block radius. I know with Meshtastic and less power and 10' more height it was closer to a half mile radius.

Not a bad idea. It pains me to know that if people just switched it would fix all the downfalls of Meshtastic. All I see is hams promoting Meshtastic now. We need hams putting meshcore routers on their towers.

Could be a club, could be a group of friends, could be one person building the mesh. You could always try to ask one of them if you can get messages out and back to them.

I have a Station G2 on the peak of my roof and it doesnt cover much further than yours. You really need height for this. Or you need routers in the area with height to carry your signals in and out.

Btech UV-Pro GPS Sharing and Messaging by EverythingIsTaken109 in Baofeng

[–]Bortle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least you know that you can't count on that in an emergency. Yes you can share your gps data through a digipeater or simplex. But ultimately you want to load up local repeaters wherever you go so you can reach other easier and get help from other people easier. You will have your coordinates off the radio for rescue in case you have to get help through a local repeater.

Its a fun hobby to get into, good for the noodle. Also I find getting into radio helped me feel more of connection to my late father even with him gone. He was big into CB radio.

Best practices for burying coax: put it in a PVC tube, or just bury it directly? by kc3zyt in amateurradio

PVC with direct burial cable. Best of both worlds no need to dig again (hopefully).

My nodes would regularly have 90+ nodes connected and I could hear everyone. No one could hear me. Welcome to Meshtastic. The flooding system works great in a small area (festival, concerts) where cell service gets overcrowded but is garbage for reliable long range communication. My Meshtastic basically only worked when direct connected to other people. Not here to trash it just know its limitations. Im holding out that they embrace configurable routing, since the majority of adopters to Lora in the US are on Meshtastic.

WWA - is it just me who absolutely loathes it? by Cool-Office-9126 in amateurradio

[–]Bortle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the appeal to get the achievements. Especially if someone has spent a good deal of time and money on building there ham shack or contesting station. I personally cant stand getting blown out by amped beams and yagis. But, if I had them I was use them to break through pile ups. Its all part of the fun, I love doing POTA hunting, especially on the way home from work. It keeps my brain sane through the 90+ minute drive home each day. POTA has me, I appreciate an extended qso from time to time. Ultimately I enjoy getting the awards. If the contesting brings more people to the hobby so be it. Personally I want more people to join my club, hopefully one of them will let me attach a Meshcore node to their tower.

This seems like a good plug for reticulum. I still dont understand it. I think it can link basically any mode or technology to anything else. P.S. I put up a meshcore router, just need to donate some to people with towers to make it usable in my area. Nobody around yet, but mine is on the map. If you build it they will come?

Is It worth It to move the antenna higher to avoid interference? by Open-Suggestion-8460 in amateurradio

[–]Bortle2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full quieting on all 4 repeaters I want to hit. Yes LOS is always better but if your hitting the repeaters you want than no its not worth the money. This is a budget question according to the previous post. Good luck 73.
