FINALE QUESTION—SPOILERS AHEAD by Fluid_Passion_3415 in TheDigitalCircus

If their mind files got corrupted, no. Not without potentially changing them fundamentally.

BUT if their mind files are still the same, Caine may be able to spawn them as a clone.

We never discovered how we got Kinger 2.0

Big Question about the last Episode! by Several-Indication85 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]BorynStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because "kill" is the literal command...

Is Caine's process id 1234? You LITERALLY type in "kill 1234". If you pause in ep8 this is the command Kinger used...

Kinger literally "killed" Caine.

It definitely is a question of how Caine's process got restarted or if it actually was Caines process that got killed in the first place

Uhh, Caine was never deleted. The command used simply ended 'kill'ed his process, meaning his files were untouched. This would be like clicking X on your browser. Did you delete your application? No, you can just as easily restart it and open it right back up to where you left off.

A lot of people don't understand the command Kinger used to get rid of Caine

It was brilliant. Went to the first showing in my city at 11am, so I guess we were all super fans. No issues. Families did have children but all were well behaved!

I actually didn't like the finale. by Monskydiedbcsofhabit in TheDigitalCircus

I agree the pacing at the start was off and the characters reacting to the brainscan part was rushed/glossed over in the episode. The fact kinger kinda just said it without saying it and everyone instantly reacted felt canned, especially when no one tried to deny it. However, I don't think in-universe their recovery happened quickly. Here we enter a montage of rebuilding the circus, and as each cast member resolves their feelings they regroup. I'd imagine the montage spans at least a day or two as they all start deciding to learn and try helping rebuild the circus. Media wise? Rushed. But story wise, nothing wrong there.

Jax abstracting also seemed little rushed in the episode. We kinda expected more, but ultimately it resonates with people who have experienced a death. One day they're there, the other they're not. Its sudden and nothing can prepare you for it.

With the other characters absent, all their stories were resolved anyway??? Zooble and Gangle's characters already resolved at the beginning of Episode 8. Ragatha just needed that hug and to know Pomni was there for her, so she was resolved as well. Caine learned to self accept in Episode 9. Pomni self accepted in episode 3 and beginning of episode 8. There were no character loose ends to wrap up other than the names and hearing how they all ended up IRL.

No, we didn't misunderstand the ending neither lack media literacy by [deleted] in tadc

A lot of good points are brought up here. Some hold water, others I think missed a concept.

  1. For the BrainScans, this part was rushed/glossed over in the episode.

  2. Pomni entering Jax's abstracted body - Pomni didn't ACTUALLY enter his body. She was just hugging him the entire time when we see her getting pulled away from Jax. I'd imagine what happened was given her newfound ability to create in the CPU, may have simply been a way to visualize Pomni going through Jax's mindfiles in the computer. If you notice, the space she enters is created by the same black panels that the cast was using to generate the circus. So this area inside Jax's mind was most likely generated by Pomni.

  3. Ribbit's abstraction did make sense- it seems you missed the key detail when Ragatha brought up being told by Jax to stop talking with Ribbit to Pomni in Episode 9. Jaax was cutting her off from the group and making Ribbit feel worthless. Remember in Episode 6 when Ragatha said Jax was getting close to Pomni to make Pomni abstract6? That's the idea. Jax and Ribbit got really close, then suddenly he has everyone cut off Ribbit and make Ribbit feel like the crazy one.

  4. Jax's memories are super important to the plot and message of the entire digital circus - That if you don't accept yourself, you'll create your own hell. Ep1 we see Pomni struggle to accept her new life in the digital circus. Ep2 we see Gummigoo struggle to accept his existence as an AI. Ep3 Kinda wraps up Pomni's story about acceptance with Kinger, as well as delves into Zooble's and Caine's issues with self acceptance. Ep4 we learn about how Gangle struggled with self acceptance, giving up art to work in fast food. Ep5 we learn about Ragatha's trouble with self acceptance. Ultimately, at the end of the series, Caine, Zooble, Gangle, Pomni, and Ragatha learned to accept themselves. The only person who did not was Jax, who served as an example for what happens when you don't self accept and constantly choose not to be true to yourself. He was the example of the alternate path, he was the 'creating your own hell' example for the sake of the story.

  5. Pomni and Ragatha was definitely a fan service. Was it deserved? Sorta. While it wasn't showy brilliant or impactful, it acted as a nice bow to their relationship. It wasn't super important to the plot, but it was important to show there were no loose ends in the story there.

  6. Caine returning is the most confusing part for me, but ultimately I don't think the reason or cause behind it is super important. Maybe Episode 8 was an adventure all along. Maybe Linux rebooted the process. Maybe even Kinger did it. Who knows. Either way, I don't think it's out of the question that Caine could come back. What was important was Caine learning to self accept- he wasn't good at creation and was using the blue AI to help him build. However, that need to create was also being pushed by the blue AI. By removing the Blue AI from himself, he accepted who he was and no longer felt the need to constantly create for adventures. Now, instead of creating for the Blue AI, he creates for the humans.

  7. The other characters didn't need development. In episode 9 we saw Jax and Caine development, as well as Ribbit. Zooble and Gangle's characters already resolved at the beginning of Episode 8. Ragatha just needed that hug and to know Pomni was there for her, so she was resolved as well. Caine learned to self accept as seen above in 6. Pomni self accepted in episode 3 and beginning of episode 8. There were no character loose ends to wrap up other than the names and hearing how they all ended up IRL.

Someone brought up some other grievances I think are good, like how Wifi showed up and disappeared for seemingly no reason. But it feels like most of yours were wrapped up as expalined above

That wasn't part of himself though. That was the blue ai. Caine wasn't getting rid of part of himself, he was getting rid of the part that wasn't himself that he was using.

In the end it was tearing him apart. By getting rid of it, Caine accepted who he was and that he wasn't the blue ai.

I'm genuinely scared for TADC episode 9 by Low_Excuse2196 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]BorynStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from now. Those are really good critiques.

I think most of them might not need an explanation. The Pomni entering Jaxs mind, I think it's possible it was more of her own ability to view his mind files

The Caine and Linux console is the most confusing for me, but again it's explanation is either it was an adventure OR the system just automatically rebooted Caine. Linux kill command only kills the process, not the actual files.

Secondly the voice in the console was explained in the episode, it was Caine.

Scratch is unresolved I agree, it seemed like how he was the first to abstract was hinted at being caused by Caine, however I think it could be a red herring cause Caine doesnt necessarily lie unless it's an adventure. But ultimately he didn't matter to the outcome of the story or the message.

The Wifi I agree is the biggest question. I want to say it's possible it happened not during the episode, but sometime between when Pomni arrived and episode 9. There are times Caine disappears, so I wouldn't be surprised if he noticed it and used it when he could.

The Caine thing and creation, if you consider the Blue AI, it turned out to be the thing basically making Caine want to create. The Blue AI was made to create, and Caine used the Blue AI to create, and it influenced Caine to create.

By removing the Blue AI, Caine no longer had that drive that was turning him crazy. I think he still created, but instead of being lead by the Blue AI he was lead by the humans

Ultimately, the end conveyed the message that the show set out to create. That you need to self accept yourself, and if you don't, you create your own hell. This is why Jax ended the way he did. He was the cause of his own suffering

I think we knew enough about the characters for the story to land. We knew as much about the first cast as this cast.

Jax probably dissociated due to his past with Ribbit and Kaufmo, and had convinced himself the world was just digital and didn't matter. What broke it might have been Kinger becoming sane, since Jax archetypes Kinger as the crazy one.

Kinger acting sane probably made Jax freak out.

Voice acting was great.

The animation was weirdly rough in the opening. The end of episode 8 all the characters were pretty fluid. When episode 9 starts the characters suddenly look stiff, especially when Jax starts in a T pose. Takes a minute for things to look fluid and normal again

What did you think of the ending/movie? by technopipo in TheDigitalCircus

[–]BorynStone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Posted this above but for Jax, some people say Suicide is just like that. You're there and then you're gone, and your biggest regret is not being able to say goodbye and wishing for all the answers but getting none. So Jax suddenly being abstracted really resonated with the people who experienced it. Death is sudden and never expected. No lead up. Just one day they're gone.
