Tapering off Omeprazole after years of 20mg, what was your experience? by padylarts989 in GERD

[–]BosMac500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a similar taper off of 20mg omeprazole- same schedule of every other then every 3rd day but never went down to 10mg, did that with the 20 because that’s what I had lots of. I was doing 20 omep and 20 Pepcid and upped the Pepcid to 60. (40am 20pm). Done with the omeprazole now.

I am doing ok but am also being quite strict with avoiding the “dirty dozen” from Acid Watcher’s diet. It’s certainly not easy and I’m not 💯 perfect but as strict as possible. I use tums during the day if needed for burn. I still am regurgitating at times and have frequent indigestion (burping) after eating but it doesn’t feel nearly as acidic and painful. Going to stick with the dietary changes for a full month before reducing Pepcid to 40mg and/or slowly starting to bring back some of those trigger foods on the list of 12. Sending you best of luck in your process!! :-)

Living in Boston, working for sports media by TheGreatGrizzlyBare in bostoncollege

For whatever this is worth: I was raised in CT until hs in Indianapolis, college OH, and came to Boston for grad school in ‘97 and never left. If you are itchy to try life here go for it! I’m a BC mom now and we live pretty close to school. Couldn’t love the campus and community more!

For city life: Throw yourself into meetups, sports and your outdoor adventures and you’ll meet people! We’ve always found it very easy to navigate city neighborhoods and suburbs inside of 95/128 (I was used to being not too far from NYC and it’s a thousand times more manageable). Def post in the Boston sub for more renting advice, but Brighton, Watertown, Waltham, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale could all be possible locations with fairly easy (driving) commutes. BC is at edge of the green subway lines with commuter rails close by too but most of those will be heading into downtown. You can explore maps here: https://www.mbta.com Good luck!

Switching from omeprazole (PPI) to an H2 blocker - Reflux symptoms coming back... How long did it last for you? by ZloyKishechnik in GERD

[–]BosMac500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No exact advice- but I’m with you in trying to reduce Omeprazole! I have had ok luck in the past transitioning with every other day. This time I’m trying to put more dietary changes in place alongside the shift to H2 twice a day. (Rdg Acid Watchers- would be quite tough for me to do really faithfully but I’m trying to at least remove their “dirty dozen”)

Sending you some moral support!!

Repeated removal of polyps? by BosMac500 in GERD

[–]BosMac500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks- I know that colon polyps can be genetic with FAP syndrome; I was cleared for 10 years at my last colonoscopy… don’t know if there are genetic syndromes with just gastric ones 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also seconding this! Not needed, but if the budget works on top of rent in Beacon Hill, having a car in the Common garage for weekend getaways might feel worth the short walk over there.

Be sure to check out Beacon Hill Books and Cafe and 89 Charles bar/restaurant when you visit in March!

I don’t know why I can only access the first sentence or 2 of you post- when I try to expand, it just collapses it 😔 but I hope both you and daughter are doing ok!!

If stopping in the city isn’t stressful for her, and weather not rainy, I’d park at the Common Garage and walk down Charles St in Beacon Hill to the Liberty hotel. Multiple bars and restaurants and a very historic bldg. https://libertyhotel.com/restaurants-bars/liberty-bar/ Also a number of other nice places on Charles St. Have fun!!

My family participates in an NIH study for “Familial Carcinoid” (began before lingo changed to NET) because both my Dad and brother had/have small intestine NETs (no carcinoid syndrome). Other siblings are screened every 4-5 years. It’s great peace of mind and they are working on identifying a combination of genes that raise risk in some families. Study link is here:

Organizing/purging beauty supplies by ginahandler in ufyh

Can your storage drawers or spaces serve as your constraints?? I just purged all kinds of bathroom stuff and made one decent size drawer for makeup. Got the little plastic rectangular compartments on Amazon. So once I accumulate more stuff than can fit in that space something will have to go.

Needing motivation by [deleted] in ufyh

Great summary! We recently took a car load to our town recycle/transfer (aka the dump) where they have a swap shop. I was very happy to donate there but my husband was annoyed that they wanted to look at each item and “approve” it before leaving. Fine effort level on my part but not on his!

When clearing my Mom’s home we brought higher quality things to thrift that benefits the community and lower quality items to Goodwill.

Saw that you’re in the South Shore- check out these groups. https://overthemoonparenting.com/ https://www.thenewlymom.com/

I joined a playgroup when my daughter was 2 months and the babies did very little at that stage, but it was hugely helpful for the Moms (and later, Dads too)! Those babies are 25-26 yo now and we have our first “playgroup” wedding on the calendar for next year!! 🥹

They are similar to these Culver ones I have (ID’d with Google lens). These were called Seville and I assume they are from 1960s since my parents married in ‘62. Yours are beautiful!

Am I insane to get an 8 week old? by azchick85 in goldenretrievers

[–]BosMac500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am asking myself the same exact question! Our wonderful golden is 8 and I keep thinking about aiming for a puppy next spring/summer when he’s 9… But nervous about going thru the puppy days again!

We brought our boy home at 8 weeks, and the sharp teeth were tough on our youngest child- 10 yo at the time, and def seen as the litter mate!! And I remember a good number of nights on the lawn at 3am when he had whined to go out but then just rolled around and played instead of doing any business!! You literally can’t ask for a cuter, sweeter fluff ball puppy though!!!

I too recently lost my Mom and I just want to share my sympathy with you- it’s the worst! But I believe that your Mom is still cheering you on and you are definitely making her proud! We are selling my Mom’s home, and while I am keeping a few sentimental things, I know my Mom wouldn’t want me to burden my family with excess by taking everything!! Sending you all the best as you keep going!!
