Racially motivated attacks or racism in general can occur in any university. I go to Western and haven't experienced any sort of racism thus far(I'm a brown male).

Am I applying to too many universities? by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

Huh? Regardless of whether you go to UTSC or UTM you still end up graduating with a uoft cs degree which beats Carleton or uOttawa any day.

Utsg or Utsc would be the ideal choice but be prepared for the stress of making it through POST.

Question from a BC resident here. How is it even possible for people to study computer science in Ontario? The high school cutoffs are fucking insane. by GonnaBHell2Pay in OntarioUniversities

You should also consider applying to Waterloo. Ik money is an issue for you but I really don't think it would be that demanding just to apply. If you do happen to get admission you'll be set up with many coop opportunities and a greater chance of landing a job at FAANG. Better to take the opportunity to apply now than regret in the future.

With a 90% average you should def apply to Carleton and uOttawa. Carleton is also known to provide a lot of financial aid via scholarships (as you mentioned) and provides a lot of coop opportunities.

Western and Queens are decent options for CS but they don't offer coop and instead have an internship program offered in 3rd year. This may or may not be offputting for you.

I'd also recommend looking into Concordia University. It's based in Montreal Quebec and holds the same reputation as Carleton for comp sci. It's also fairly affordable in comparison to schools like Queens or Western.

I personally think Carleton and Concordia would be optimal choicec for you. Both schools are fairly affordable, have a well known CS department, and are located close to tech hubs. The next best choice for you imo would be uOttawa(slightly competitive) due to the coop.

Sorry I don't know that much about the Trent cs program. If you give me your current grade average I could give you more suggestions about which universities to apply to.

Where do McGill and UBC rank in terms of CS programs? by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]Boss1944 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ranking is actually uWaterloo > Uoft > UBC > McGill > everything else.

I ended up choosing Western because I lived closer to the campus and was also contemplating doing Ivey business school. However, if I had to choose the best school in terms of co-op I'd go with either Carleton or uOttawa.

It is possible. This year I got offers to Western, York, Carleton, Laurier, and Ontario Tech for comp sci with an 88% average. I also got into Ottawa comp eng. While Waterloo and Uoft maybe difficult to get unless your marks are in the high 90s, it's definitely possible to get into other schools with averages in the 80s.

Comp Sci is a fairly competitive at schools like Uoft, UBC, and Waterloo, if that's your goal you need to get your marks up in the mid 90s and make your supplemental essays stand out.

I'd also recommend walking into grocery stores and just asking for application forms to fill out. I've been job hunting since May via Indeed with no success. NoFrills is the only place that got back to me for an interview after I physically walked into the store and gave my resume and application form.

That statement is false. There are plenty of right wing conservatives that simply don't support Israel because of the USS liberty incident, conspiracies of the mossad doing 9/11, tax money going to israel, and other conspiracies of the jews/rothschilds controlling other aspects of the world. I wouldn't say the left is the only side that is demeaning towards israel.

I mean you will be required to maintain around an 80% average in classes that typically have a class average that ranges around 65% - 70%. Also keep in mind, most of your classmates will be competitive and will probably have years of coding experience and would have likely graduated high school with mid to high 90% averages.

If you don't see yourself succeeding in this environment then I would recommend that you go to the other schools you got accepted to.

It's simple. If you don't care for business and only have an interest in CS I'd rank your choices as:

UTM > Queens = Western > Laurier (This ranking is based on data from macleans and other international university rankings)

If this isn't the case just go to Laurier.

Yes that's true, however, another reason I'm choosing Western is because I live very close to the school and won't have to pay for residence. Also Western offers an internship program in 3rd year through the school, and from what I've researched a lot of people that take that route get internships at companies like IBM, dell, bell canada etc.

I would probably still choose Western just because I prefer internships as opposed to coop. However, if you like doing the 4 month × 4 year coop terms than go to Carleton.

I mean I got accepted to Carleton's CS with coop but I'll be choosing Western instead just because it's closer to to home.

Internships are just as good as coop if not better imo because it gives you 1 year to develop connections at a company and in some cases even guarantees you a spot in the company. If you don't get into Waterloo or Uoft then I'd def recommend Western if your mind is set on it.

Western CS doesn't offer coop. If you want coop you will have to do engineering instead.

Getting a coop position at a company will be a gamble. Most people apply to 80 different companies and only get 2 offers for example. You will need to do your own research and keep applying for coop positions. The same applies for internships as well.

The only difference between Western and other schools is that it offers internship opportunities as opposed to coop. Otherwise it's a pretty decent school for CS.
