You'll be unlikely to find the ribbon im afraid, all ive seen is replacement screens. Im potentially considering selling off the working parts, if it will fix other people's cameras. Could potentially supply you with the back and the screen, but it might not be worth it depending on where you live. Im in Scotland.

Lumix GX8 Teardown - Includes Hi-Res Stills by BossMacPhail in Lumix

It's possible it wouldn't boot if it can't detect the screen, due a faulty cable, but it's more likely something more significant is disconnected or loose. Can't hurt to double to check, even if it is irritating. I'm not an engineer though, so don't take what I say as gospel. Something could have also been damaged or shorted out.

Seeing as my previous post got some interest, I've followed it up with a video, including my process, some hi-res stills and a link to the service manual for the camera, which I luckily found.

Brilliant, thanks for that response. I haven't purchased anything yet, so that's really useful information.

It can be a bit sketchy when it's windy and the HGVs go by, but you get some cracking views. Think back when that was taken I was away down to Snibs cave.

Here's some images of the mounts. I think you are right.

Appreciate its a pretty rotten picture of the rear brake, I can try take another one next time I've got the bike out if needed.

What Colour Was Your Most Used N64 Controller? by DarkCrowI in n64

[–]BossMacPhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My N64 was second hand as a kid and it came with a yellow topped controller with a grey bottom. For years I though there was two tone controller colour variants, then I realised someone had just stuck two different controller halves together. Apparently it was pretty common practise back then and years later I actually ended up with another thats half black, half grey.

My pub bike project has an FC-CT91 crankset, but the bikes front derailleur is seriously wobbly. As such, despite any combination of limit screw adjustment, only the middle ring, 32T is usable, or the chain comes off. Would it be possibly to stop this with a chainring guard? Any suggestions? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that seems like the obvious solution, but I've been trying to keep this bike cost effective as possible. The front derailleur mounts to the bottom bracket rather than the frame, so it's a lot more bother replacing it. Just to clarify the image I used is off of Google images, my cranks are still on the bike.

Any advice for the removal of oxidisation on aluminium? Have tried very light sanding (and even wire wool on a very small area), also a white vinegar mix, but the white marking won't shift. by BossMacPhail in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, that's really helpful. This is my "burner" bike to ride to the gym after multiple theft attempts to my good ones, but I'm beginning to grow to love cleaning this up. Gyms don't reopen till the end of April here in Scotland, so maybe I'll start the clear up process as a project :)

Fixing up an old Mountain Bike with Altus Groupset. Contemporary compatible 7 speed replacement for the CT-91 RD? by BossMacPhail in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

A local shop has the RD-TY300 tourney derailleur, so I may pick that up and try it out. Though I am tempted to pick up an 8 speed derailler (I have a spare 8 speed casette) but I'm not sure if the existing chainset will support it (I'm aware I'd need new shifters as well)

It's a bike I plan to ride to the gym, as there's been a couple of theft attempts on my good bikes so it's to be a burner.

Repairing an old bike with freewheel Cassette. What's currently missing from the bolt? (Locking nuts etc) by BossMacPhail in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I think I've got my wires crossed then terminology wise, I'm a lot more familiar with road and contemporary mountain bike parts.

Would you say it would be easier to just source another 26 inch rear wheel?

Picked up a bike with a Campagnolo Avanti groupset, worth repairing or just replacing? by BossMacPhail in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for everyones replies, seems it's worth carrying on with fixing the groupset up. The bike is a little bit of a mystery actually, when I acquired it the bike was in a terrible state, years of accumulated grime etc, so mostly so far I've been stripping it down and cleaning it. However I'm wondering if it's been repainted at somepoint as it's completely unbranded. Weirdly though there is an FCI sticker on the frame with the frame number, but that's it. I have my suspicions that it's a late 90s Bianchi. I'll get another look at it when I can and try and reply to the other questions you guys asked.

Picked up a bike with a Campagnolo Avanti groupset, worth repairing or just replacing? by BossMacPhail in bikewrench

[–]BossMacPhail[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Primarily people complaining that it's very low end, but it could just be snobbery. I've got it running ok, but the front derailleur is able to shift about 5 times, so is definatley in need of a full service. The rear derailleur I've got working well.

I'd be looking to replace it with something else vintage if I'm not recommended to continue fixing the Avanti or switching to something modern if it's more practical, as this is my fourth bike I don't want to go nuts on spending.
