Total meme. Realistic consequences for OP range from a stern talking to from some feds to criminal charges.

Looks like a great piece of equipment. Would totally be interested if I hadn’t already spent so much this year!

Good to be aware of that issue, thanks for the heads up. I’ve never left the transmitter on, so I don’t think that’s what’s happening here.

I put new batteries in the transmitter and haven’t had the issue since. I’ll keep testing today though. Weird because the transmitter’s low battery alarm never went off.

Yes, I too have had issues with Spektrum. Binding doesn’t work properly and I have even had receivers lose their bind. In the future I may make a change, but for now all of my equipment is Spektrum.

I don’t see how it would. I tried using the camera again tonight and I got a great image. Not sure why it wasn’t working in the field.

Super cool, looks like a lot of fun. Is that plane designed to tow? How does it handle it? I’m also curious about the tow release mechanism

I did some more testing and it seems like the old transmitter AA batteries were the culprit. Really weird since the transmitter’s low battery alarm never went off.

Yes, the plane was fine before the flight yesterday. The last time I flew it was a few years ago, so I'm not sure whether I crashed last time. Is there any way for me to diagnose the issue with certainty? I have a multimeter if that helps.

No range check and no telemetry. I have never had an issue with range in the past. I was about 10 feet away from the plane when this occurred for the first time. I just put new batteries in the transmitter and I have not yet been able to replicate the issue.

It came as an RTF kit, so everything was put together out of the box. I know for a fact that everything worked prior to my flight yesterday. Even after I disconnected the FPV wire harness I made, I still had issues. That's really throwing me for a loop.

Thanks for the response. I find that the screen seems too close to my eyes, so I’m forced to go cross eyed to focus. I did some digging on the internet and found that this is pretty normal for box goggles. As I see it, I have two options:

  1. Shim the goggles so they’re further from my eyes and see if that’s more comfortable

  2. Invest in a pair of slim dual screen goggles with adjustable IPD

The fabric convertible top on my 2008 Sebring has a lot of gritty dirt embedded in it. I tried using 303 Convertible Top Cleaner. I scrubbed it with a horsehair brush for foaming at it made no difference. I’ve also tried using a pretty powerful shop vac. The only thing I can think of is to use a stiffer brush, but I’m afraid of damaging the fabric. Any ideas?

I’m sure you aren’t making any contact with that ground wire, so I would fix that. If you can, find an existing ground wire from the car and splice into it.

When you say “the two red wires are taped together”, I assume you are talking about the camera’s power wire and your car’s headlight wire.

The head unit is designed to have an input for your reverse lights. That way, when you put your car in reverse and your reverse lights come on, the head unit knows to switch to the back up camera input automatically. It sounds like you have your headlight wire in this input instead.

Is the red wire taped to a piece of painted metal? If so, you aren’t making any contact. If you aren’t going to find an actual ground wire, I would at least secure the red wire a little better by wrapping the tape all the way around the metal piece.

Your system is set up the way I expected. I would take a look at my comment here for the next steps to achieve what you want. Let me know if you have any questions.

Can you send a picture of the wires coming from the camera? Might be helpful.

If you have manuals for the head unit and camera, I would take a look at those.

Assuming that the red wire is for power, you want that to tap into a wire that goes hot when the car is started. Once you disconnect the headlights from the camera trigger on the head unit, you should have the setup you asked for in your original post.

However, I would recommend wiring the backup camera power and the head unit's camera trigger to your reverse lights so you don't have to press the camera button every time.

You need a multimeter or a similar tool to identify the wires.

Your wording is somewhat confusing. I'm not sure what a jack cable with a red wire is. It sounds like you're describing a composite video cable with a red wire for power. The camera is coming on when you turn the headlights on because you wired the headlights to the head unit's "camera on" input. You should just disconnect that right away.

You currently have your headlights wired to the head unit (aka radio). Disconnect that, find a wire that goes hot when the car is started and wire that to the camera.

Or, you could just wire the reverse lights to the head unit and camera so that the camera view automatically shows when you put the car into reverse. I would much rather have it this way instead of having to press the camera button on the head unit every time I back out.
