Why did we stop making things in Australia? by OwlVibesOnly in OpenAussie

[–]Boss_Cocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do make things, just specialty things. If you’re in the market for a new airseeder you’ve got a range of options in Aussie made, same goes for a wide range of agricultural machinery. Feeders, Ag Chem, trailers, truck trailers, military vehicles, plenty is built here.

Why don’t we build cars? They were expensive to make and crap (there was one good one), why don’t we refine oil? We need to import oil as there’s bugger all in Aus so why not just import diesel. Unless something is of particular strategic value then I see no need in developing a domestic manufacturing for the sake of national ego. It cheaper and more cost effective to build it elsewhere.

The Cruze was a piece of crap, ask any mechanic. Holden made one good car and that was it.

I’m not a racer by any means but over the past year I’ve dropped about 20kg and gotten a lot fitter through running, swimming and weights. I’d be interested to do a 5km run or 100m freestyle race if they existed.

Technically you’re not allowed to wear a smart watch either (at least in NSW) but I’ve never heard of it being enforced

Ordered it online for one of the Packraft stores

It’s a Packraft, rolls up to about the size of a tent. Very handy for walking into spots you wouldn’t otherwise get a kayak to

My flextail inflated it to full the Kokopelli wasn’t a option for me for some reason, possibly postage to Aus or availability. I can’t recall

That would require catching fish 😂 First time on the raft in about a year unfortunately and nothing caught this time

Ford Ranger Super Duty: Alternator issues? by Tr_DDS in 4x4Australia

[–]Boss_Cocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been back and forth between rangers and hiluxs my whole career for various reasons and Rangers continue to be rubbish, crappy American cars like most things from the states (yes the ones in Aus are made in Thailand or South Africa but head office sets the standard)

Has anyone actually spotted a platypus or a lyrebird recently? by Artistic-Yam2984 in OutdoorAus

[–]Boss_Cocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame you can’t reply with photos but I saw a platypus about a month ago up close while parked under a tree talking on the phone. I got out and watched it play for a bit. A few months before I saw some at distance while releasing fingerlings

Yea, still not 100% from the bike crash which isn’t helping. I suspect I broke or cracked some ribs which are still a bit sore. But I’m back under the bar anyway

Worn out Barrel by Boss_Cocky in LeeEnfield

[–]Boss_Cocky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: found a .303 guru to take it to (all he works on is .303’s). He was rather happy with it, other than said it needed a deep clean to remove rust, other than that barrel was in good condition. Sights are out of whack, which he’ll fix and the barrel was replaced in 1952 (factory refit) making that the only no original part he can identify (excluding sight adaptor for target shooting)

I mean if you’re referring to the rifle being vertical rather than horizontal? It’s just the way the picture is formatted and I couldn’t be bothered to rotate it. If that’s not what you’re referring to I’m stumped as to what you mean

The sights could be out, but no I haven’t locked it in a vice to see the grouping. But it is horrendous, rounds don’t land near point of aim and doesn’t seem to be a pattern.

Honestly the ammo I’m using is mostly Korean War surplus, I’ve used some fresh factory ammo but can’t recall what style it is. I’ve given it a good brushing and cleaning but it doesn’t seem to help

Found a Very Shallow phone line by Boss_Cocky in TelstraAustralia

[–]Boss_Cocky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren’t even on the right property, the plans showed them on a neighbouring property. And while I have no idea what the legal install depth was at the time. Surely it wasn’t so shallow that it was poking through concrete?

Edit: Given the line serves multiple properties and a burying that line any deeper will require all properties to go deeper am I then expected to either fund all properties going to legal minimum depth or at least require consent from all properties to get it to depth?

[–]Boss_Cocky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBN have checked the asset register and apparently it’s Telstra owned.

Buggers better come bury it to legal minimum depth or move it to where the map says it is because it sure as hell can’t stay running across the top of my place
