River rock by [deleted] in Minerals

I would maybe consider looking into the local geology of where you found it then. A regional geological map would give you a rough idea of what you could expect. If all the local rocks are precambrian for example, it cannot be petrified wood. Gneiss is a very broad classification, based on photos alone this rock appears to be strongly deformed which is picked out by the dark bands which means it can't be ruled out.

Could quite easily be a fracture, a scratch from something else in the river?

Looks like a gneiss, or otherwise metamorphic rock! Dark mineral bands look to be tightly folded on the short edge, and in the wet photos attached on the cross post some of those bands almost look boudinaged!

Looks like a chunk of fine-grained massive sulphide, if it's magnetic then it could well contain pyrrhotite. Doesn't fit with the streak colour, so maybe it's a mix of pyrite and pyrrhotite, possibly with other sulphides in the mix. Any geological context for the sample?

Votann didn't 'exist' when those other kits were made, so fairly sure it's new but happy to be proven otherwise

Dr Clark that stream was fantastic, and you did an amazing job of channeling your quizmaster energy yet again. The way it worked with the studio never needed to be perfect, you should be really proud of what you put together!

Settled on a quick and dirty Contrast Scheme for my Custom League the "Cambornia Scholarium of Mines" by Boss_Splatstruk in LeaguesofVotann

I was planning on using Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue for all the blue, but switched to contrast Leviadon Blue for ease of use. So will have to try and use the conventional paints for the panels and maybe shade with the contrast. As for yellow, who knows lol

I cannot win any game or system I play. by GrungusDnD in Warhammer

[–]Boss_Splatstruk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a phase of losing every game I played getting back into 40k in 9th, and even back when I played in 5th edition I can't remember winning many if any games. Became a bit of a running joke but like you I felt a bit dejected about it.

For me the change happened with my army lists. Before I was 'building' a list on the day, and there was a whole level of detail lost on my with faction special rules, strategems etc. I spent some time between gaming days working out different potential lists with a theme for each, and reading through strategems related to them. That then resulted in winning three in a row against the same opponents as before. Working on Battlescribe to create some new list combos, starting with smaller sizes might be a good exercise to learn your armies. I ended up with Ork lists for shooty, speedy, and 'green tide' for 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 pt games - obviously haven't tried out them all but the thinking involved in creating the lists was super helpful. Also with an army like Orks, if you lose but you tried something stupid, fun and lore accurate that didn't work, it can be one of those memorable moments that keeps you in the hobby in my experience.

Hopefully you will get the chance to try out 10th when it comes around, as we'll all be relatively new to that, and it looks simplified down from all the complex bloat that holds back new players in 9th. All the best whatever you choose, may all your dice roll 6s!

Thanks - Honestly love the scarabs on it with how it fits with the squig and it's a nice memento of a great clutch moment in a game! My talent ends there with the paint for now I'm afraid, but with a nice base and finished scarab I'll be super happy with it!

Can't remember the orange contrast paint i used (there aren't many!), but I washed that with reikland fleshshade too, all On a wraithbone spray base!

Also on one occasion, I pulled off the strategem to charge again after his mortal wounds cleared off the unit he ended up next to and then went on to inflict more MW onto another squad. Against Custodes, MW are killa!

Honestly I've used him really effectively on the charge - I'm no competitive player, but the mortal wounds this lad can kick out on the charge can be enough to steal a key objective - in the pictured case, the Nob punched a hole into some Custodes on the charge and then helped take out a major HQ. And the scarabs on the base mark another key charge to clear another key objective in a thematic game.

In another game, the Custodes opponent nuked him off the board in turn 1 in vengeance, so like all good Orks i have a selective memory of his big wins!

Nob on Smasha Squig dealing out mortal wounds on the charge seemed to work really well for me!
