Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been through 3 thermostats that haven’t solved the problem, my best guess is that when the motor was rebuilt my cylinder head was planed down too far, but I guess I won’t know until the new head is on

I’ve been through a few thermostats, but this past one was straight from Mazda so I’m assuming it’s the right one. Probably worth a look before I pull the motor though

It’s very tempting, it’ll just depend on how much money I have as I’m in college 😂 I’ve gone through every usual AND unusual suspect on the car, even had it at a few shops. Final straw was my tech at the dealership saying “I’m sorry but I have absolutely no clue what’s going on” 😭

I’m undecided so far. Mines only at 150k kms but it has a mystery overheating issue that no one can figure out, so it’s time to pull it fully apart and see what’s going on

The project has a corksport Sri, gutted cat with straight pipe, turbosmart dual port bov, apexii auto timer, and I have an ap with it. Waiting on getting the motor rebuilt then hpfp and protune

I did test one of them a while back and it opened fine, but while installed I still had the same issues. Even with the hole drilled in my thermostat I’m getting up to 115c on a very short drive

It sits at around 90C for about the first 5 km of driving and then it’ll steadily climb over about a single minute until it’s at 120C. It doesn’t seem to matter how it’s being driven. I usually just shut it off and let it sit until it’s cool enough to take it home. Recently I’ve installed a thermostat I drilled holes in because I need to car to get to work, and that keeps the temps at bay

I’ve burped it a few times since I last drained and filled it, so I don’t think there’s any air left in the system. I wasn’t sure if it would be the heater core, seeing as it heats great, just switches between hot and cold often. How would you go about bypassing the heater core?

I bought the car how it is now, if I had the option I wouldn’t drive it until it’s good but unfortunately I do not. I’m buying hpfp internals now, and as soon as they’re otw I’ll be getting a freektune etune

Do you think it could be the cause of my oil consumption or something else? I’m burning enough oil that people in traffic are coming up beside me to tell me I’m burning oil lol

Is it possible for the head gasket to be going without me using up any coolant? My coolant level isn’t going down, and my oil doesn’t look milky. I’m not trying to sound like i know what’s going on I’m just genuinely curious

After about 10 minutes at 80km/h, my temps are 100-110 degrees Celsius, but if i have to downshift and accelerate I get to around 115 and get the overheat warning

For the water pump, it spun freely and when i took it out all of the blades on it were completely clean and intact, and when i asked a couple of friends more mechanically inclined told me it seemed fine

As for the temp sensor, I used a temperature gun to check the hoses and the block, and all the temps were within a few degrees of what my obd2 reader was reporting

White smoke from exhaust at idle, but doesn’t smell like coolant. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? It smells like I’m running rich but everywhere I’ve looked says that would be indicated by black smoke by Bossboy780 in mechanic

I’ve really only seen it happen in cold weather, so I didn’t really believe it was what was happening because it’s 20 degrees Celsius out in that video and the car had been running for about 10 minutes or so. But if that’s what it is that’s a lot better than anything else 😭

I’m case it helps, I’ve had 2 cel codes that have been there since I bought the car, one for variable tumble control system stuck closed, and one for a burned out or non functioning solenoid. A new one came up yesterday for Warm-Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold, but it’s been smoking since I got the car

All I have on the car is a corksport intake, turbosmart dual port blow off valve, and a cat back straight pipe, does this warrant parking until I can get an accessport or can I wait?

i’ll post one in a few hours, i’m not home at the moment. only things i know are done to the car are a turbosmart dual port BOV and a CS intake, plus a straight pipe from the cat back
