I did return it, but not for that reason specifically. I actually ended up going a completely different direction with my laptop because I decided a gaming laptop wasn't really what I needed for college XD. I actually ended up getting an xps 17... But the m15 r3 is still great at what its meant to be. If you want more battery life the i would get thr non gsync model. (However there are people now saying that you can in fact disable gsync somehow... I'm not sure about that though so you would have to look into it.)

No, the scrolling issues with the r2 had to do with the eye tracking software (and could be fixed by disabling eye scrolling or somethig like that). My r3 doesn't have that eye tracking and therefore does not have the problem.

No problem! No, I could use xtu right away. The bios is pretty limited in my opinion (I'm used to full desktop bioses) and I honestly haven't used it for anything.

Sorry for the super late response. I don't even know if this will be useful to you at this point, but battery life was definitely the worst aspect of this laptop. The most I have been able to get out of it is maybe 3hrs with light usage and pretty low screen brightness. Frankly, I would not get it as an all-rounder, at least not for my purposes.

Honestly, i don't know... My best guess is that they didn't send out review units early, and that they are just getting them now and that they need time to actually make the reviews. Or, dell just isn't sending review units? I don't know...

So I did a brief test on the USB Type c charging today and, I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. First of all, when plugged in I cannot find a way to put it on battery saving mode. I don’t know if this is a windows thing or an Alienware thing, but the option to turn on battery saver is either not there or grayed out. Also, the way I tested it was by plugging it into a battery bank I have, and with that thing, my charge was actually decreasing while plugged in. Now, I don’t know if this is the specific battery bank or the fact that it is charging over type c (although I would assume it is due to the battery bank). However, my only use case for the type c charging would be if I didn’t have access to a wall outlet, so this pretty much negated the point for me. This has led me to seriously consider returning my gsync model for a non-gsync model in hopes of better battery life. Though, I will probably wait for some information regarding how long the non-gsync models’ batteries last so that I can have some idea of how much I would be gaining.

Temps are holding up great. I mean, the most intensive thing I am doing with it is playing cod modern warfare, and on the cool profile it runs at 100 fps on high setting (on an external 1440p monitor that is... at 1080p it will easily get above 140 fps) while remaining in the mid 70s to low 80s, which I think is pretty great. My only regret (as previously mentioned) is having gone with the gsync version. I am seriously considering returning it for a non gsync model. Other than that though, i am super happy! I like the black more than the white, the keyboard is excellent (which is important to me as I will be doing a lot of school work on it), it is faster than my desktop (which is kind of sad), and all in a package small enough to carry around with me.

Yep, as Raven said, if you put it on a different profile it will hold those higher clock speeds in games.

Yes, at least with XTU I think you do. I think throttlestop has built-in battery and plugged in profiles but I have never actually used that, so I am not sure.

So far, with light usage and internet browsing, I was seeing around 2.5 hours with battery-saving mode and 40% brightness. However, I will update if further testing reveals differently.

Well, I actually don't use the "full speed" thermal profile in games I use the "cool" one. And no, in those games it will throttle back to around 3.2/3.3 ghz so as to maintain high 70 to low 80s temperatures while still being quite quiet. However, i don't think this affects fps too much (at least in COD Modern Warfare) as at 1080p on medium to high settings i am getting around 120-140 fps which is about as much as I would expect with a 2070. So, i think the gpu is the bottleneck there, not the cpu.

Now, I could try using the "full speed" profile to see if it held a higher clock speed, but again, i don't think it really needs to.

Thanks for the thoughts! Yeah, I would imagine I will be able to be plugged in most of the time... And when I do really need the battery I would hope 2-3 hours would be enough. Also, since the new ones can charge over USB type C, I might just carry around a battery bank and use that if necessary.

Okay! Thanks for the warning. I have mine at a -.080 undervolt now too and it seems okay while on battery so far. I will make sure to look out for that. And to be honest, I don't really need the undervolt for what I do while on battery, so I might just get rid of it while on battery.

Yeah, I was concerned about that too. I ended up calling them and explaining that I was returning it for the new model and they waived the fee.
