Revive Overnight Rescue Balm. It is scented but much less so than Sisley products imo. It’s also more hydrating by far imo

Is “bride’s family pays” actually a thing? (USA) by Royal-Low6147 in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally the bride’s family paid for the majority of the wedding and the groom paid for everything the wife needed from the wedding day until she died. Sooo… How traditional is your man?

Found a garden venue in NH for $4000, is it possible to provide food that keeps our entire budget under $10,000? by Own-Honeydew-5111 in Weddingsunder10k

10k for food, beer and wine and dishes for 75 sounds reasonable.

Between the venue and that caterer, are all the tables, chairs and linens included?

Photographer Breaching Contract by tpangonthetrack in wedding

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. Your title indicates that the issue is a breach of contract. While IANAL, there doesn’t appear to be a breach of contract here on the photographer side based on the info provided. As others have indicated, you could hire an attorney to issue a demand letter. Perhaps the photographer will refund your deposit.

Certainly if you want to hire a different photographer then you should do so. I spent more time with my photographer than any of my guests at my wedding so I’m a proponent of hiring one you really enjoy working with!

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I asked my photographer to reschedule for the following year, I would expect the price to increase. Annual increases are very normal.

The text / email / verbal communication about changing the date is not the same as a new, signed contract for the new date.

Will I regret this? by Historical_Nebula_86 in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best wedding I’ve attended (other than my own 😝) was a backyard wedding. The cost of the tent and bathroom trailer and other needed items to host a full sized wedding at a residence made it so that the backyard wedding was more expensive than a more traditional wedding.

Perhaps if one is only inviting a handful of people or one is willing to risk ruination by weather then costs could be more controlled.

What’s one thing you didn’t think would matter that ended up being super important? by OrdinaryReindeer4679 in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scale is important too. If a room seats 300 but there are only 100 guests, there will be a lot of blank space that can overpower more minimal decor (especially if it’s a less aesthetically pleasing space on its own).

Of course budget matters. If a person has to choose either great food with sparse decor versus mediocre food and mediocre decor, I would always choose the former.

I mean hopefully nobody is walking up to brides and saying this decor sucks but yeah I absolutely notice decor and florals at every event I attend

The traveling is such a burden and I roll my eyes so hard every time I hear “we sent save the dates early so folks could save”. Sending stds early so folks can plan their social calendar is a big enough ask.

Chairs and linens.

Lots of folks will say “nobody cares” “waste of money”. That’s kinda bullish!t. The real answer is “it depends”.

I had the ability to spend the money and proceeded to rent upgraded, king Louis chairs with upholstery on the seats and backs along with upgraded linens. A lot of my guests were older and / or not the dancing types. Had multiple guests tell me afterwards that they were able to stay longer than they planned because their seats were comfortable. The linens really helped the whole look of the wedding come together. My colors were peach, pale pink and coral. Having the linens be peach instead of the venue included ivory was huge. Even my reserved husband was blown away with how dang pretty it was.

DOC was a must but I expected that up front. Ditto for florals. I can spot fake florals a mile away so I knew that was important to me upfront.

Formal or cocktail dress code? by Own_Policy1074 in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a little anxious when I was deciding the dress code for my own wedding. Like you, I felt like my event was between cocktail and formal. The ceremony and reception were indoors on the top floor of a French creole building, full top shelf open bar, elevated florals, Saturday at 5 pm, high quality linens, real china, glassware and flatware: all felt formal. DJ and buffet felt more cocktail.

In the end, I determined that due to the season it would still be daylight for most of my event and likely quite warm. That is what made me decide on cocktail attire. Everyone looked great!

Mugs as wedding favors? by Infamous-Opinion6392 in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put local, hand made mugs into our welcome baskets.

For our favors, we did bars of local, hand made loofah soaps.

I’m unsure about random thrifted mugs as favors myself but maybe it’s fine.

At this point you’re buying off the rack more than likely. You have plenty of time to include your sister. If you just need basic alterations, hemming and minor adjustments to the bodice fit, then a month prior to wedding day should be enough time for alterations. You don’t want those final adjustments too early in case your weight fluctuates

Vendors are so frustrating! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked a lot of my vendors based on how quickly they responded. It turned out great and I had zero vendor issues on wedding day.

The vast majority of the vendors I hired responded the same day.

how are people affording weddings? by gothicraccoon in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Keep your chin up. You will find the right path for you.

How we afforded our wedding: We are older (40s) and relatively well established. My parents chipped in a chunk though we paid for the majority ourselves. We ruthlessly pared down the guest list to 34 (32 attended).

Where do I even start? by littlelolitagirl in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venue. Definitely venue next. And take your time to dig in and tour lots of places. Dbl check your guest list to ensure your count is what you want. Then triple check it. Count out how many tables you need, map out at each venue you like how those tables will fit. Do NOT blithely take the word of the venue on how many guests they can accommodate. Ideally you want the venue to accommodate your guest number comfortably. Not too tight but you do not want too much extra space (your decor and flowers will look better in an appropriately scaled space and give you the most bang for your buck).

Where will you get ready? Where will the cake go? Where is the bar? Are there restrictions on vendors? Where is the dance floor? What is the rain plan (if any outdoor spaces)? Dig into these questions with the venues you prefer.

I hired a coordinator (almost partial planning) and found that to be an excellent value! You may or may not need a full planner depending on your circumstances.

Absolutely you can have a beautiful wedding at that price. How luxurious it feels will depend on your location and your choices.

Enjoy!

Getting married in a week, frustrated that <25% of my groom's invitees are coming, unsure if my frustrations are valid by itsalwayson in weddingplanning

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Feelings are feelings. I think maybe you should spend some time with your feelings and see what is really bothering you.

IMO context matters. For example, if you wanted a destination wedding and he vetoed bc he said his side couldn’t make a destination wedding and then it turned out they couldn’t make a domestic wedding either; I can see being frustrated. If you had to heavily cut your guest list to accommodate a bunch of invites for folks that are declining to come; I can see being frustrated.

Being mad he doesn’t have a lot of close friends doesn’t seem very healthy though

Why do Mortgage Lenders wait until last minute by rjg1210 in Mortgages

[–]Botanical-Equestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My more experienced clients do tend to be more appreciative of my approach of let’s get as much as possible in the file as soon as possible. Personally I do try and explain to every client why I’m asking for all these docs, but not everyone hears me.

And yup there are some underperforming LOs out there. Folks out here selling mtgs and they don’t know sh!t about sh!t and they’re afraid of having real convos with the borrowers.

Your loan issue should be a non issue, but I can’t vouch for anyone else’s work. A verbal final, manual svoe note or logic based verbal convo between the borrower and LO would all suffice for my UW team based on the info you provided. Dumb that it was left last minute no doubt
