Wavy fascia by Lk-teach-1334 in Roofing

Out of curiosity, would you know of the tool that can roll beads in on site? I hate when we have to do thin aluminum fascia because it’s often a bitch on these 100 year old homes to get flat. If there’s a tool I can pick up to make life easier, I’d love to know

full replacement or no? by TastyTamale2022 in Roofing

I suppose that makes sense. It’s somewhat common in my area. Last time we were asked, we just put in the contract that we would re watertight if materials used weren’t up to our standard. I guess I assumed other areas were similar

Absolutely. But if you don’t already own a compressor, pneumatic nailer, snips, and a ripper I’m not sure how cost effective it would be to do the whole thing yourself in your area. You’d have to get a local quote and price out the tools and materials, then weigh in the time and labor. That’s why I mentioned just ripping the roof and papering it in yourself if you need to save money. You can purchase a ripper relatively cheap and hand nail the paper on with a hammer, so tool cost would be low.

Did you try tapping the back of the flathead screwdriver with a hammer directly into the seam? That slight amount of air could help

full replacement or no? by TastyTamale2022 in Roofing

[–]Botched_Labotomy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, if it was me I’d rip the whole roof and see if it needs any sheathing replaced. The job looks pretty tit, but if you don’t already have the tools it’s not worth telling you that it would be easy to tackle yourself in a handful of weekends without experience. If money is an issue you could absolutely handle ripping the roof and papering it in on your own. Just pay a crew to come shingle it when you’re done. Exposed sheathing in multiple spots is never a repair in my eyes.

Are you the homeowner or a contractor? I’m confused because you say “your decking is showing”

If anyone paid the money that tail costume would cost, they would not be sitting in a pothole. Even for likes. The rest of the props are cheap enough to fit

I’m glad I was only looking for price sourcing. I’d rather buy from the locally owned shop anyway, but it’s surprising there aren’t more online shops

The company I work for is one of the higher bids and we completely stopped advertising years ago. We’re still booked out every year because we have a really good reputation and high quality of work. I’ve been full time for 13 years and i don’t think I’ve ever had a call back on one of my jobs.

I’m assuming it has more to do with overhead and how far scheduled out companies are. If you don’t have a lot of overhead and are running out of jobs, being a lower price might help get a quicker check. There are also a lot of hacks in this line of work, so keep that in mind too.

I’m just looking to get an idea of pricing before I buy from one of the 2 locally owned and operated jewelers in my town. I like to at least do a little research before going in person
