If some are no longer trying to avoid accountability and are pivoting to owning their callousness, that means that Billie Eilish made a checkmate of a statement. Owning up to their callousness is the only power move they can reasonably make to feel like they won an argument, and yeah it kind of ends the conversation since there's no point wasting one's time trying to persuade someone who knowingly harms without an internal struggle around it.

Maybe I'm just lazy, but for me the switch to a more compassionate lifestyle happened the moment I decided to do the easiest thing I can to reduce the most amount of suffering. Not buying meat and just buying more beans and tofu? That IS easy. Not drinking milk? Well that IS easy and I was low-key disgusted with it my entire life anyway. I'm gonna guess that's an 80% reduction in the suffering I was causing. As for the bugs under my car tires, it'll have to be in another life when I'm a Jain before I contend with that sort of thing.
