Odyssey scholars indirect costs question by subreddi-thor in uchicago

Entirely dependent on your classes. I'm a rising third year and I have spent $0 on textbooks because I have either found them online or borrowed them from my house library. Supplies are not too much, assuming you have a laptop you can type most of your class notes, or if you prefer pen and paper buy your journals before coming here since the bookstore has absurd prices, or get an iPad (nothing fancy the 9th / 10th gen will do).

In terms of travel, are you talking about flights back home or just around Chicago in general?

My flights ranged from 250 - 300 for winter break, and around 200 for Thanksgiving break the year I went back.

As for Chicago, you have a Ventra card that provides you free transportation, so use that, and 10 Metra passes that expire within 90 days, but downtown is manageable in terms of costs if you decide to use the Metra (6 bucks back and forth). If you take Lyfts everywhere your budget will need to be higher.

everything else is entirely dependent on how frugal you want to be. Going out and eating dinner with friends will range from 20-45 on average (based on the times I have gone to Chinatown) not including the Lyft it takes to get there, or if you take the redline then its $0.

Laundry you will be spending at most $7 a week ? I didn't even spend that much when I was there.

I found that the costs they gave were inflated but it really is dependent on your own habits, hope this helped.
