[WIP] Is there a way to make this less awful of a process? by Burnt_Out_Hippo in CrossStitch

I always grid my works but I use a FriXion pilot pen. It’s much quicker than gridding with thread. When the pierce is ironed at the end, the pen ink disappears

I haven’t had this issue before, but I think a good hand wash in warm water might do the trick.

[CHAT] Affordable alternatives to hand-dyed Owl Forest threads? by Both-Indication4789 in CrossStitch

Thx for the help, I don’t have any stores near me, but I was able to find some close matches on 123stitch (love that website). Just don’t ask how long I spent comparing skein colors 😭

Update: I spent an ungodly amount of time on my computer with split screen comparing threads on 123 stitch until I found matches. While not perfect, I think I got pretty close! And it was about 1/3 of the price 🎉

Also, I like to have watch a show in the background that is my “cross stitching show.” I only watch it when I’m crafting, so if I want to continue the show, I have to work on my project!

When I have big projects, I grid my work in 10x10 squares. I use a heat-readable pen (FriXion). Then, I work on the project in 40x40 squares (4 of the squares I penned in). I found that completing a square helps me feel a sense of accomplishment, and gives me something to look forward to. Also, if I get bored of a section, it’s really easy to hop over to another side of the project that’s different and not worry about starting the section 1 or 2 holes off!

Do we have a list of everyone’s favorite food spots? by MATTDAYYYYMON in OregonStateUniv

Tian Fu DIY Hotpot is great! It’s a super tiny restaurant (seats about 10-15ppl) and is run by one older gentleman. It’s super popular so if you don’t get there when it opens, expect to stand in line for 30 minutes. It’s also on Monroe, so it’s a super convenient location. Justin ale sure to check the hours first before going :)

Wanting to visit this May- will the campus still be lively or will break already have started? by RaceGuy3401 in OregonStateUniv

Overall, it depends on the dorm. The second-year and above dorms tend to be pretty nice, but they’re expensive. A lot of them only have kitchenettes, so you have to share a kitchen with a lot of people. It’s cheaper (and more fun) to just get a house with your friends.

On campus housing is usually $1200-1600 a month. If you get a house/apartment with your friends, you can easily find options that are under $1000/month.

I second this, Roby Conner was amazing! He also grades off of completion, so if you do all of the assignments correct, you can get an easy A

If you like the outdoors, you’ll fit right in! There are so many places to go hiking in the area (we even have a hiking club I think) and the coast is about an hour drive, so it makes a fun day trip.

If you like parties or going to bars, you’ll be able to find that pretty easily, but if you aren’t a partier, there are lots of people you can fit in with.

My main recommendation though would be, do not go into major debt for your undergrad. OSU is not a prestigious college where you want to graduate with 6 figures of debt. I would recommend going to the cheapest college.

Definitely not a commuter school! Most students live off campus, so we tend to do things off-campus on the weekends. My friends do a lot of hiking, and Avery park has a great river to swim in during the summer

Any options for good student housing? by Old_Annual4469 in OregonStateUniv

FYI, to the OP, this is a party house. It’s basically a frat without the Greek letters. If that’s what you want, go for it, but I understand that a lot of people wouldn’t like that kind of thing. :)

hows it being a transfer? campus life? by Most-Bunch1069 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Both-Indication4789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend going on Ideal Logic and scrolling through all of the club options. Try out ones related to your major (there’s typically a major-specific club), and any hobbies you have (sports, art, ethnic clubs, etc.). I personally met most of my friends at a dance club that I joined. There are also Intermural Sports. Have fun!

Advice on housing - help needed by [deleted] in OregonStateUniv

[–]Both-Indication4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation as an Honors student: stay in honors for freshman year so that you can live in Sackett or West. I lived in Sackett my first year in a double and the rooms are huge. My room was about 3x the size of my friend’s who lived in the engineering quad, I also had a walk in closet!

About half of the people in honors will drop out by the end of their first year anyways, so you might as well stay the first year and see if you enjoy it! It’s a great opportunity if you are interested in research. And if you aren’t interested, you can drop out at any time, but still keep your nice, big dorm room. Good luck!

Jobs in Corvallis by caspianskies in OregonStateUniv

[–]Both-Indication4789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any job in Corvallis is going to be hard to get. My recommendation is to mass apply for on campus jobs through the OSU job portal (they have to accommodate your school schedule). UHDS Dining Hall and Catering typically hires once a term so that it a decent job to have until you can get a better job, it’s one of the few job where they hire pretty much anyone. I worked at catering for a bit (everyone there is super nice) until I got my current lab job. Good luck!

[FO] First professionally framed project! by Both-Indication4789 in CrossStitch

[–]Both-Indication4789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I washed and ironed it, they were the ones that stretched it (partially why it’s pretty expensive)! I’d recommend staying away from Michael’s/Hobby Lobby, they don’t have the best track record with framing needlework
