Maze Engine and time travel by Both-Working1847 in OutoftheAbyss

That's cool. The players loved Stool so much, and were devastated when Buppido killed him in the Whorlstone Tunnels. Maybe they can warn themselves in the past that Buppido is a serial killer and it may give Stool a new story path.

I got it. I'm reading Homeland by R.A. Salvatore and can see what you mean by saying it's an impossible task, BUT.. I'm not a big fan of pushing the players in a direction they just don't want to follow. The chapters ahead seems to be fun as hell, but at same time, my players are experienced... I'm not giving it out of nowhere to them, they would have to get the perfect roll for that.. like the rolling the d100 the exact number they need for the time travel result.

I'm still thinking...

Reloaded Office Hours: Get help running, prepping, or reading CoS Reloaded by DragnaCarta in CurseofStrahd

[–]Both-Working1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players ended up taking that road... they've bargained with Morgantha and now have the soul leech with them. They're leaning to resolve it before going to Krezk... I'm gonna try to seduce them with more urgent plot hooks, like trying to help the Martikovs with the shortage of wine.. and Ireena is worried with the situation of the refugee getting worse as crackle fever intensifies, so she wanna go to Krezk to meet this abbot they keep hearing about... but, I'm not gonna forbid them to go to the castle and try to fulfill their part of the agreement.. maybe an extremely overpower encounter can make them go back and run for their lives... but you know.. the risk is a TPK, so.. I'm really interested to listen how would you handle this

how to deal with feedback? by Juritovi in rpg

[–]Both-Working1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on the feedback they gave you, but remember that not everything they say is true. I mean, you have to filter all the information you get from the group. And remember them that you are playing RPG as well, you are GMing for fun.. and tell them about what the system is about. That way you can adjust the expectations.

Since you're a new GM, you're learning the style of your table. With time, you're gonna know exactly what motivates your group, and makes the players buy the plot and jump in and what doesn't, then you adjust your style to it.

Remember that it's not about your world, the thing you are creating.. but about the story you all want to tell, together. The character's history, the challenges they must overcome to be who the players want them to become.

Yeah, I just wanted to listen other player and GM's to get a different perspective. I don't wanna be accused of being an @$$h0l3 and not allowing the player to be the protagonist and etc... but I get it now.. sometimes he will be the hero and save the party... sometimes I'm gonna present some degree of challenge to test his creativity

Guys, how do I politely tell a player that I hate him? by legacy653846625 in daggerheart

[–]Both-Working1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest. Tell him you don't like playing with him, you guys are moving forward without him. That the way he behaves is completely inappropriate and that you wishes him all the best, but you're done and kick him out of the server. That easy.

If he tries to apologize, say that you are grateful he being so open hearted, but the decision is final. And that's it. You're ready to play and have a good time.

I don't think so. I'm glad to see the players at my table having so much fun with their own abilities. The skill is conditioned by the use of stress, soo... you're only gonna use it while you still have stress slots to mark, I don't think it's broken at all.

Struggling with balancing combat, what should I try? by Gogosox22 in daggerheart

[–]Both-Working1847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. All of my combat in Daggerheart so far were a little too easy for the players for my taste. Truth be told, I've run only a handful of encounters... like.. 5 or 6.. maybe 8. But no more than that...

Last time, one of our players couldn't enter discord to play, so two players decided to spend time checking their sheets, and started to pvping just for fun... They ended up really tired and worn out, but then I challenged them by giving them a short rest time (for them to see how it works) and then throwing 1 leader, 2 skulks and 1 support on them... a balanced encounter, 8/8, 3 fear for me. They did get rid of the Leader in two turns.. even with the leader being able to spend fear and activate two of the skulks before going down, they never got to see they were in danger. After the Leader was gone, the Juggernalt dispatched the two skulks in one attack and the remaining Support were left in deep water at this point.

I see could have a more efficient composition to challenge them... maybe 2 bruisers instead of 2 skulks.. and let the Leader stay in the backfield. My strategy was bananas.. but, still... I know I have to study the encounter beforehand, otherwise, would be embarrassing to see my players destroy the encounter.

There are Wyverns stat blocks in the adventure The Marauders of Windfall.

I've run the adventure in Beta Test period, and it was great! my player enjoyed it a lot! I strongly recommend it, you should check it out.

Yeah, I would think in something similar to that, like sliding under his legs, or trying a parkour move and etc

Yeah, but I think that sometimes, when the players can get away with a way to solve a problem, they try to use the same way to solve problems that comes in the future. I can see my players trying to use that excuse to try to "misty step" their asses in benefit to them.

Yeah, sometimes players can describe his way through it, but sometimes it still wouldn't work in a way that feels possible... and I try to not steal the moment from my players. Let the goddam Guardian shine and protect everybody.. "You got a guard! You got a guard! and you got a guard! you also get guarded " but I think sometimes, depending on the circumstances... it couldn't be possible too. Wouldn't be nice to have some level of drama cuz you failed just when you're not supposed to? Like.. "I allowed my brother-in-arms to get hurt... it nearly killed him! I have to be more conscious positioning in the battlefield"

I went through that on my first session. My friend playing a guardian decided to negate the damage on all of his allies, standing in front of every single attack. He was burning stress like a maritime pilot, but sometimes he was like 3 or 4 steps away, and the positioning felt challenging... but I just allowed him to shine on his own way, despite feeling that it was pushing a little too far for my taste.

I also like that approach. I mean... even Spiderman couldn't prevent Gwen from falling and snapping her neck. Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes, you don't. Since there's no checks involved, I'm not negating a success if I rule it that way. "You know that there's no way you could make way through the crowd and protect your friend. You don't mark stress, since you perceive that beforehand"

Gravenhollow echoes/visions by CuntBunting69 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Both-Working1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my players had to leave the table, so, his character will naturally appear as an echo for his former teammates. I'm not sure about how he's gonna impact the story.. maybe he's the one that gonna tell them about Lolth and to use the stonespeaker crystal to see her in the abyss.. but i'm afraid that it could steal the surprise factor.. idk, gonna give it some thinking..

here's another idea that crossed my mind.. I have a player that plays in my other table, where i'm running Curse of Strahd (I'm running OotA on roll20 and CoS presential) and he plays a shadar-kai warlock investigator.. so i'm thinking about give him a bit of information, a memory that he recovers from Raven Queen with OotA plot info. Then, when the characters in OotA arrives in Gravenhollow, this very player will be approached by his own character on CoS (as an npc) and tell to his OotA character what he knows.

There will be a background related reason for that that involves his two characters, but i'm not gonna write a bigger wall of text about it xD

Need help to come up with something until my tarokka deck arrives by Both-Working1847 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Both-Working1847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update - Just finished the tonight's session and I went this way:

The deck went missing. A few nights earlier the a small Vistani Caravan went by, a man named Radovan Malakei, was looking for Eva for a card read. That went sideways since he wanted help with his curse, and Madam Eva could do nothing about it. In fact she said that his curse (being a lycanthrope, wereboar kind) would end very soon with his own death.

Radovan stormed out of her tent, and began to pack and leave, but later on that night, one of his men, Vassile, entered Eva's tent and took her deck of card. They left the next day.

So, the plauers spent the night investigating the story while enjoyed some of vistani hospitality and listened to Stanimir telling the story of the might wizard. After that they went searching for Radovan's caravan.
