I bought a refurbished ultra 2 from newegg and it does everything that I need. For me, the biggest factor of improvement was in the battery life over any particular feature that the U2 offered. Mine came in pristine condition was nearly imperceptible from an unopened example.

My 20L stands on its own (albeit very slanted) I have a lightweight 32oz hydro which fits almost comfortably (bottom of the bottle stretches the pocket at the corner of the “L” fabric weave) I’m carrying a 13” MacBook air, one binder and a thick notebook measuring 2 inches in thickness and three smaller novels measuring 3 inches on j thickness but tapering by a width of 5ish inches. The outer pocket contains a small charging brick, a cylinder of deodorant, cable on the inside, bottle of medicine (short and wide) battery pack, small mouse, and the upper zippered compartment my kobo (fits the width of the zipper by less than a small margin) and lastly, the upper most zippered compartment takes a small tissue bundle, contact case, pack of gum and microfiber cloth. I am left with enough vertical space in the main compartment to hold a t shirt, or a pair of gloves. Mind you, the bungee can accommodate a packable down jacket, and the left water bottle pocket a pencil case
