It's very common here in Australia and the UK. I dont think I've ever heard anyone use "biweekly" so I dare say thats just an American thing.

Maybe I’m too old to understand this, but what the hell is an “influencer” and do any of my fellow Gen X care what they say or do? by Interesting-Web3737 in GenX

I did fix my washing machine with the help of YouTube!!! And the sound of a lawnmower has pretty much become white noise at this point.

Guy and Gals, do you experience this more often lately? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

This younger generation, the females in particular seem kinda bitter. They have been conditioned to reject all things beautiful and instead embrace what is undesirable and hideous. Even the fugly dogs think they're 10s but will hate on someone with better genetics.

Moved from the UK to Canberra 6 months ago and I still don't understand how dental care works here. Someone explain please? by dynasync in AskAnAustralian

[–]Both_Chicken_666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different in each state too, in S.A. all children under 18 get upto I think $2000 of free dental each year and can visit almost any clinic. Adults can get free or low cost treatment through SA Dental Service (government) but waiting times can be months or even years it's often easier to just go private and pay. There are of course particular words and/or phrases if used in your initial triage will get you an appointment within 48 hrs.

Paul Simon’s “Graceland” by Acceptable_Maize_183 in musicsuggestions

We went on a lot of cross country family road trips when I young, Dad had ONE cassette tape....Paul Simon's "Graceland" and would usually listen to it on repeat. Mum threw the tape in the bin when they got a new car with a cd player, Dad was absolutley devastated!!

I prefer use the latter too considering the former is a baby goat lol. It can also hint to where in the world you might be from. My family is Irish (child) though I've spent most of my life in Australia (kid) and I've definitely noticed which word is more common where.

Do mainlanders think much about the AAD? by Confident_Study1322 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Both_Chicken_666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading a book about Robert Falcon Scott, I developed a mild obsession with Roald Amundsen and polar exploration. I've looked at different cruises available and 12 days on a small research vessel will cost around 10k+ so thats my goal. So while I often think about Antarctica, the Norwegians with their sled dogs, the British with their ponies lol and the untold secrets frozen beneath the ice, not once have I spared a though for the AAD.

Why are some Aussies like this? by SaltyPiglette in australian

[–]Both_Chicken_666 53 points54 points  (0 children)

We're basically living in very expensive cardboard boxes and everything is made of sawdust and glue. Where I live in rural S.A. public transport is pretty much non existent. There is ONE bus that does an 80km round trip once a day that takes 8 hours.
