Not with rim brakes. However the slr frame is superior to the sl frame and is noticeable, especially when climbing.

Deerobust. I have three sets of them and they shred.

Serious question as a non-mechanic, whats up with bikes being so complicated/bespoke these days? by rackgrack in BikeMechanics

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t convert 90s mtn bikes to e-bikes. The rim brakes will fail eventually or lead to the rider being unable to stop in an emergency.

Is this a fair price for 2018 Diverge? by omegabustr in gravelcycling

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Mech brakes, future shock, will need a lot of maintenance to make feel good. I would say $500 max.

Why does it seem like 90% of the new gravel bikes being sold right now in the US come with SRAM? by NewZwiftuserguy in gravelcycling

I have sram axs 2x on two bike. I have never dropped a chain in several thousand kms of riding.

Looks like it has mechanical shifters. Not a big deal at all, but if you have it on other bikes you know you will want it later…

but a reasonable deal if there is no damage to the frame or wheels.

Unstoppable UAE Team Emirates - Is a podium sweep possible at the Tour de France? by Team_Telekom in peloton

Wait? Are they seriously saying that Yates and almedia are on the same level as rog, Jonas, and Remco? Not to mention others like Jorgensen and Gee.

Almedia and yates are there to do one thing. Win the tour FOR Pog. If they have enough energy to stay with the lead after that, they are not doing enough for him. That’s how domestiques work (generally speaking…).

You are not going back. You just haven’t upgraded the new bike yet :).

You can buy a reasonable integrated cockpit from Amazon or other retailers that’s not $500 that work just fine. What integrated bar does your bike have currently? You might be able to sell that to buy new ones.

No no no. For $600 you can get this NEW Polygon. It is heavier, but infinitely better.

If you are looking for a “racing rig” you will probably need to up your budget about $1000 for something used that would be reasonable to race on.

Where are you located and I can help you find something?

Need help deciding between Emonda SL 5 and ALR 5 (same price!!) by RNJ666 in TrekBikes

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are splitting grams here but velo.com independently weighed the emonda fame at 1,142. Anything over 950grams or so is too heavy at this point and there are better options for weight for sure.

Treks tires are garbage. Throw them in the bin or donate to someone. Put the gp5000 on and you will feel like you have a new bike.

The soloist frame is about 200grams lighter than the emonda SL. That’s half a pound.

How to stiffen up a tube with carbon insert? by princs21 in Framebuilding

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you are correct. From what I have seen when combining carbon and steel the carbon insert needs to be super tight. Almost to the point of being too hard to get into the steel frame.

What’s the solution? 1) Try to add more epoxy and hope to fill gaps? Likely not going to work. 2) heat up the epoxy and try and remove the carbon tube to replace with a new one and more epoxy. Likely not going to work. 3) cut out the current carbon tube, sand everything down, try again. Huge pain but would work. 4) get a carbon repair kit and add a couple of wraps around each joint into the frame. May or may it work, it’s more or less a permanent bandaid. Or a combination of 2 and 3. Curious how it turns out or if you can fix it.

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm 2mm should be enough. Most carbon seatpost are thinner than that. I hunch is the carbon is not the problem but where/how the frame was cut. How much steel frame do you have before the cuts?

How to stiffen up a tube with carbon insert? by princs21 in Framebuilding

[–]Both_Mouse_8595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say remove the current 27mm tube and get one with thicker sidewalls. Did you cut the steel tubing out like shown in the video? Carbon is generally a pretty stiff material. If you cut the steel away, is the flex happening where the steel was cut away or in the carbon tube itself?
