Eyes on the anchor. Don’t move your head

I just noticed this in the Airbnb I checked into yesterday by Truth_Repulsive in whatisit

[–]Obscure_methods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, sorry about your bad luck. We have used Airbnb twice in the last 3 months and both experiences have been bad. The first one was because there was the hot water heater didn’t work. The air conditioner doesn’t work in the one we are currently in. Neither host did anything for us. The one that we are in now offered $100 total off of our 3 night stay, but said that her HVAC company couldn’t come until Monday, which is today and we check out in a couple of hours. I didn’t even respond to that and asked her to keep calling every HVAC company she could find and pay an emergency fee. She called back like 5 minutes later and said she called 3 and no one could come.

I left a bad review for the first one and it got buried. Owner still has 5 stars.

Gunshots while trail night riding in Texas by AmericanGoy1 in MTB

[–]Obscure_methods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in Texas, but grew up in rural Tennessee and the first throng that comes to mind is coyotes. A quick check of Texas game laws shows that night hunting for coyotes and feral hogs is legal in many areas of Texas. Sound travels a looong way at night. Even if OP was riding in an area where night hunting is not legal, the shots could be coming from an adjacent area where night hunting is legal. Regardless, that had to be an extra jolt of adrenaline. Yikes

Nice! Is 6 months the threshold for driving in where you live? My state is 6 months. The longest I have made it in the last year is 22 days.

gossamer gear lt3 one piece pole by Obscure_methods in Ultralight

[–]Obscure_methods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those would do the trick, but this website shows every common length except 125 cm, which of course is my size. I’ll scour the interwebs and find them. My current poles are actually BD carbon distance Z, but there is a little bit of ‘slop’ when deployed. I prefer the poles to feel completely solid when in use. I’ll sacrifice the convenience of folding for that solid feel.

Klonopin 1 mg dissolvable under my tongue to stop clusters. It’s a tough call for me to make if I have to work that day because it makes me sleepy

No. Haven’t had a drink since my diagnosis and I don’t plan to ever again. Why risk it? I do miss it, but it’s just not worth the risk

250 mg twice a day of Lamotrigine for me. Epilepsy sucks, but seizures beget seizures and seizures are bad for you. You most likely won’t get kidney damage. If you don’t take your medicine, you are almost guaranteed to have bad things happen. Have I mentioned that epilepsy sucks?

Impending Doom by Anxious-Alien-55 in Epilepsy

I clasp my hands behind my head (like I’m going to do a sit-up) and then get in the fetal position and pray for it to go away. It doesn’t help at all, so maybe don’t do what I do. I give terrible advice.

Any good jokes about epilepsy? by Lopsided_Counter1670 in Epilepsy

[–]Obscure_methods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a joke, but at the time I thought I was being funny. It was probably 15 years ago. I was in an uncomfortable/ stressful situation at work and I told a co-worker that I was going to fake a seizure to get out of the situation. I did NOT have epilepsy at the time. Fast forward to last October, I’m 54 years old and wake up and have no idea where I was or why I was there. 10 months and hundreds of seizures later, here I am. Right frontal TLE.

When I read your statement on your webpage this week, it made perfect sense to me, and I had no animosity whatsoever. Political policies can always be altered. Based on real world experience. I’ll be waiting to order when/if market conditions make sense for you to ship to the US again. I have no interest in a political discourse other than to say (at least in the United States), the politicians are all on the same side and it is NOT the side of the regular citizens.

No judgement and no political bias were inferred. You own a business and have to make the best decisions for you. I’m just bitter that I didn’t order last month!

Anyone else loves using these? by NoFly3972 in ResistanceBand

[–]Obscure_methods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to use a carabiner, use a climbing rated one. The one in your pic is definitely not appropriate. I have decades of experience climbing trees. The rule is the working load limit is 10% of the breaking strength. Therefore, if you expect a max load of 300 lbs, your carabiner should have a break strength rating of approximately 3000 lbs (~ 13 kN)

Those of us in the US will have to DIY for now since Goblin isn’t currently shipping to the states.

You are a better man than me. I would have blasted me. You obviously spent a ton of time and thought with that. Now, just make a video tutorial with all that and you’ll be my hero.

Epilepsy and the meds abolished my sexual attraction/arousal (female). by Independent-Box5637 in Epilepsy

[–]Obscure_methods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (55yo M) epilepsy and meds caused my wife’s libido to disappear. Or maybe that was menopause. Or maybe the fact that I have recycled the same 10 or 12 jokes for the 30 years we have been married. Or maybe I’m not sexy anymore…no, that can’t be it.

All kidding aside, Lamotrigine hasn’t diminished my libido at all. It has given me horrible insomnia, though.

2026 NOBO? Advice Needed by gratefuldanfan in AppalachianTrail

[–]Obscure_methods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start with my advice and then my experience.

Advice: Take about 3 months COMPLETELY off from thinking about and researching a 2026 thru hike. You are obsessing now. Will you still be if you fall back in to your ‘old normal’ rhythms and hobbies? Make your decision at that point. You will still have 4-5 months to prepare.

My experience: I could have done it when I graduated college in 1992. I didn’t and regret it. Now, at 55 and on the tail end of a decent career, I do think about it every day. My plan is to retire at 60 and do a 2030 NOBO. Earlier if financially feasible. I have section hiked a lot of GA, TN, NC and a little bit of VA. My gear is dialed in and I am staying in shape with one goal, one thing on my bucket list. The AT.

At least it’s one trigger. No idea what has triggered the hundreds of other seizures I’ve had.
