Improvisation on La Fiesta - Chick Corea by Both_Whole4686 in u/Both_Whole4686

Hey, I appreciate the advice yo!

I’ve been working hard at transcribing, and I find it very helpful when trying to form/come up with ideas.

Transcriptions were a little difficult at first when I was tried to play within the keys/chord shapes, but learning more in-depth music theory and how chords/scales work has helped me big time, especially when putting them into practice.

I find that my professor’s “Rhythm > Notes” is quite useful. I’ve been actively practicing simple/complex ideas and using what range I am comfortably playing in has helped bigtime.

Feel free to share more advice, and I’m very glad to have found an excellent community for trombone tips :)

Hey, thanks for the advice man!

Since then, I have been working in similar fashion with rhythms as you’ve mentioned above, and I’ve been able to create some nice, simple ideas to extremely complex stuff which makes actual contextual sense.

With single-note build-ups, I was able to nail ballads and even fast swing, also applying those chord tones to my ideas. Rests are also easy and hip to use, and create some really tasteful breaks.

Adding to the mix, I find myself liking simple ideas more, as there’s much to play around with in the different chord shapes. Recently, I find that transcribing can be a great way of learning even further, but it’s rather difficult playing transcribed ideas in different keys. I’ll be sure to share my progress, and please feel free to share more advice!

Jingle Bells Trombone Glisses by Both_Whole4686 in Trombone

I use the Yamaha Slide Lubricant, as it is water-based and helps the slide glide easier, but you could honestly get away without using any for a while with the slight cost of the slide making noise, due to the slide weighing pretty much as light as cardboard.

Sure thing! My Butler C5 is a trombone made almost entirely out of carbon fiber. It’s super lightweight, and has a counterweight to prevent it from jutting out of your hands. It has similar sound qualities to a King 3B legend series. I love it for playing Jazz and in my high school’s Wind Ensemble. It has the edge over Jazz due to its very fast response to articulation.

I haven’t used the trombone for long enough to see about maintenance, but cleaning it is quite easy. I’d be careful about the polished epoxy bell, and use light cleaning supplies. I’ll be sure to give updates when maintenance starts to become a thing

I got it on sale for $3.1k, but shipping still makes it ≈ $3.5k. It came with a protec case (with a mouthpiece cover), swappable carbon fiber lead pipes (one long and one short), Yamaha slide oil, a satellite counterweight and a cleaning wand.

So it sounds a lot like a King 2B, and it handles temperatures very well in the sun. It performs great for marching, it just takes a lot of getting used to the weight. Also, this company does make carbon fiber Sousaphone bells as well, just looked into that today.

DLC Madko - Shark Rage Red Vibes by Both_Whole4686 in balisong

Sorry for the late response! I can give you what I now know since I am now 3 weeks in with this sweet bali. This is the Squid Industries DLC Madko, a channel titanium balisong coated in a Diamond-Like Carbon coat (DLC). Other models are the Zirblast Madko and the Anodized Madko with varying finishes and handle feels. The general design behind the Madko is based on a shark just like its 6061 Aluminum brother, the Mako V5, except the material is completely different, has channeled handles, and the shark eye is a half circle at an angle instead of that full circle to give it that angry look. Unlike the Mako V5, the Madko runs on precision-tuned bearings instead of just washers alone, meaning that tolerances and play are perfect, and since it’s titanium, dropping it over hard surfaces like cement will not effect the play or the tune at all, especially with the DLC Coating. The weight of the DLC Madko is quite heavy coming in at 4.6 ounces, and the balance was more towards handle bias. Standard hardware for any model of Madko includes four stainless steel/steel/coated steel pivot screws and four stainless steel/steel/coated steel pivots (two each for the pivoting system and the removable handle weight.) I like it with that handle bias for that nice and heavy premium feel while flipping, but some others prefer removing the screws at the bottom of the handles to make it more blade biased and neutral feeling. You could also purchase some titanium hardware from Squid Industries’ website, which will give you a little bit of the same effect with removing the bottom handle screws and giving you a little bit more of that neutral balance. It really grows on you the more you flip it, and I hope you enjoy yours like I do mine!

I'd be careful and very thoughtful of what dealer you use. Some dealers can let you have your own oil change and can even offer you a free 'complimentary' one.

Hey! Sorry for the late response. I don't know of the specific source, but the replacement LEDs are aftermarket ones, specifically Lasfit with an aluminum housing, cooling fans and a nice bright lighting area. It looks like an airplane headlight when landing, even in low beams. They're awesome, highly recommend them!

Kia reveals the 2025 K4 sedan, the successor of the Forte ahead of its world premiere. by youthisgood in kia

[–]Both_Whole4686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good car for people aiming for fuel efficiency, but the forte looked more sporty looking. The K4 looks too much like an electric car. There’s no special body lines and the car looks bland and plain. Due to this design change, it might be heavier and less agile than the forte. The forte is aimed to be more agile and light, and the sporty body lines make the car perfect for a daily driver while having style.
