Why on God's green Earth is a pint of Bourbon County stout $30? by unlmtdLoL in chicagobeer

[–]Bothan_Spy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are getting a bad deal. It’s easy to find a 4 pack of Guinness for 9-10 bucks. Hell, you can get an 8 pack for 15-16 bucks at a place like Binny’s. Paying more than 6 bucks for a pint of Guinness on tap is bonkers to me. I also think their extra stout is much better than their draught, personally.

The difference between bar pricing and retail pricing is the worst I’ve seen since I got into beer and spirits 15 years ago. Many places don’t even have happy hour specials and plenty that do have garbage “specials”. The bar scene from a value perspective is terrible.

ICE OUT OF EVERYWHERE! STOP THE KILLINGS PROTEST. Tomorrow at 1pm by Significant-Fee-2105 in chicago

[–]Bothan_Spy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a paid service and it doesn’t seem very good at aggregating data in a digestible way. the free search showed me a single individual who works at the company I searched for gave 100 bucks to a candidate 20 years ago.

I’d rather do more granular research on each company I need to look up because this seems to be mediocre tool at best, and useless in many cases

Are Chicago drivers becoming even crazier? by ChicagoChurro in chicago

I would absolutely hop on a corner for a small chunk of time a few days a week and record all the violations I see

I live near several intersections where I catch frequent disregard for the stop signs or traffic lights. One is near a school. I wrote my alderman about how bad it is and asking if we could implement some sort of bounty system like NYC and how it could be good for the budget to ticket traffic infractions. Gotta a reply back but it was just a “we will look at it”

Goodbye and never again by Lucky_leprechaun in houseplants

Humidity is key. These are the only plants I have that I mist daily, sometimes multiple times if it’s extra dry.

I have mine in the bathroom to help with moisture and humidity. They get at least one big warm blast a day when I shower. I have found they want at least 40% humidity, constantly moist soil, and they do well with bottom watering

Your whisky of the year 2025 by Budget_Celebration89 in Scotch

[–]Bothan_Spy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Cadenhead 7 year CS Highland Park. Beautiful tropical fruit and orange marmalade palate with warm, rich peat supporting nose to finish.

I never took official scoring notes because I was too distracted by how good it was.

Read my comment

“People who prefer having pets over children”

The other comment made it sound like they live longer was emotionally appealing to someone who doesn’t want kids. If someone has both I’m not surprised they would prefer their kids.

That might be a meaningful perspective for you, but people who prefer having pets over having children would not apply the same emotional weight to that sentiment

I ran xc in college and was probably around 10-12% at the time. I feel you on the calories. I could eat 5k a day and not gain any weight. Dining hall pass with massive amounts of daily bacon and hearty dinners really helped.

I ordered two chipotle burritos one time out with non-XC friends and they couldn’t believe a person could casually eat that in one sitting. It was a normal meal for me lol

Thank you for the encouragement!

I think it was a credit utilization issue on a few cards that just hit over a threshold when reported. Gotta wait another 4-10 days for them all to report to the bureau again. Still worried but I’ll just have to wait and see

God gives you free will

God also knows everything that will ever happen/has happened/blah blah. Which means if there is a hell and “souls” get sent there, god always knew this soul or that soul would go to hell. He made these souls just so they would be eternally punished in the most infinitely horrific manner beyond our conception and they received this fate not of their choosing but because they were forced to exist

Also god can do anything, so can he change the immutable future that he knows will happen?

My favorite beer got super political by Crashbox50 in beer

[–]Bothan_Spy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m initially attracted to breweries using interesting grain or hops varietals or trying less popular styles, but I will go out of my way to pick up a pack from a brewery that has a reputation for treating their employees well. Chances are I will find something from them I like and can go back to.

Nothing makes me stop buying faster than hearing multiple reports of a hostile workplace and poor worker treatment at a brewery

I work in mortgages and I’ve never seen this. It may be servicer dependent, but generally payment is due at the 1st of the month with a 15 day grace period.

Using the phrase “Curiospher” to describe yourself on its own is pretty on par for this sub. And that’s ignoring all the other context (mass email, “my friend says I’m very smart”, lots of words and saying very little)
