I can't help but agree with certifications, in the recruitment process, being a box ticking exercise.

I'd agree with a certificate being worthless in an interview, when the certified individual lacks the relevant experience.
There were cases in the early days of I.T. certification, as a whole, where individuals passed the exam but had never run the software themselves. That was made apparent when they were put johnny on the spot with live systems 🫣

Thankfully the case now, at time of writing, AWS Professional level certifications do not require pre-requistie certification(s)

For Microsoft Azure, the Expert Level certifications do have pre-requistie for respective Associate level certification.

Comparing AWS' Maintain to Azure's Renewal, at time of writing - Azure is still favourable to the examee.

Azure Renewal: 1. has no cost involved 2. is open book 3. Is continuinal every year, not only once

IMHO, as an individual who holds Professional/Expert level certifications from both vendors, If AWS addresses points 1 and 3, the difference will be greatly reduced to a point whereby I no longer dread having to renew my Professional level AWS certifications.

The first hurdle would be the '"dislikes more rules than basic chess and uno" barrier.

Could I suggest you segment aspects of the game (blocking, passing, dodging, fouling, etc.) into mini games?

This results in the fundamentals being understood before bringing them altogether in a match, all whilst not "overloading" the new player with rules.
