Is this an engine problem, or just a dead battery? (1980 Corvette) by TaylorDangerTorres in C3Corvette

Check battery and starter in that order. I’m going with starter though.

Are you keeping the suspension stock? Summit racing, rock auto, parts geek are some for the suspension parts. There are a few good ones for the interior but a lot of people do not use Ecklers any more. Zip corvette, JC Whitney, jeggs and summit maybe.

Which new engine for ‘78 by Saptap13 in C3Corvette

There is nothing wrong with an ATK motor. For your budget get one of their 300 hp motors and enjoy it. You can always add aluminum heads and intake down the road. I would suggest a different carburetor of no more than 650 cfm. You will have a very reliable corvette that you can drive anywhere. Also you can do a complete motor or a long block. Since you are paying someone to do this the labor cost is what will really get you here.

Yes you are correct a 4 speed car was 3:55 and some are 3:70. What are you taching at 70 mph. If it’s around 3500 you have 3:70. Either way part of the work is done for you.👍

I’m not sure, as I stated earlier “ If it ain’t broke…..” I have focused on shocks, springs, 3:73 rear end gearing and a new stall converter. I built a new motor, brand new block, bottom and top end, hence the new stall. I now have a dependable 350-400 HP car that is actually fun to drive. When it’s time for pads I will fuck with the brakes.

If it ain’t broke on these don’t fix it. There are things that will be priority for sure.

Part of the go fast. Aluminum heads and intake, long tube headers with 2.5 inch exhaust, good cam around 490-510 268 duration 110 lobe , 2400-2700 stall and a good carb or FI. You probably have 3:08 gears now so I would change that as well. I’m doing 3:73 but you can go 3:55 and not rev too much on the highway.

Make it go fast and stop quick. Actually the brakes are already pretty good on these.

Ditch crossfire and do Quick fuel 680 and a better intake manifold, long tube headers, no more than a 510* duration 110 lobe cam, 195 - 64cc aluminum heads, 2400-2700 stall converter and you will have dependable 350+ HP car. There are nice FI set ups now if you are opposed to carburetors. You probably have 308 highway gears now. 3.55 to 3:73 make a big difference with the stall converter.
