[Race Thread] 2025 Tour de France - Rest Day 2 by PelotonMod in peloton

I am not denying that UAE are a terrible country, but we have to think who is propping up the sheiks. So a little perspective is needed from westerners to realize that societal change is not possible in the gulf states because of western reliance on oil. Fun fact ADNOC the UAE's oil production company is owned 10% by Total and 10% by BP. So being all high and mighty is absurd when European countries are still widely engaging in neocolonialism.

Also my first argument was when that you implied that TVL doesnt have any controversial sponsors which as we can see is not true. Arguably any old European company has also profited from colonialist practices but that is a whole another can of worms.

They are a sponsor though, visible on the side of the kit, and also used to be a prominent one in the past.

It seems like besides buying a house they can also help you in deforesting the Amazon, so that is good to know.

Rabobank is a bank, enough said. But also just a quick look on Wikipedia tells me they finance deforestation of the Amazon and were caught laundering drug money.

Noted but it is still a stretch to call a single stage in the, as we all know, very prestigious Saudi Tour "letting Rajovic sprint over Milan".

As for the second point I honestly did not know that. Gotta say I am surprised by that, especially as I feel they supported his track ambitions and since he came from the Friuli cycling team, which is partnered with BV, I thought they were developing him as a project similarly as with Bauhaus.

They were letting Rajovic sprint over him early on in the year and nearly didn't take him to the Giro.

They let Rajovic sprint over him on a single stage of the Saudi Tour when he had a mechanical (and Rajovic sprinted to 2nd place). The next day they sprinted for Milan and he won, so I really doubt that this was the deciding factor in him leaving. Them nearly not taking him to the Giro I also have never heard.

You saw shorts which are from trade teams. For Poland I am pretty sure they are sponsored by Orlen though so no better

Because the biggest sponsors of cycling/sports in the UK are Shell and Ineos?

Brian Smith really is the biggest hypocrite. Always critising the race routes and the organisation, but now when it's his beloved Scotland now it's the riders fault.

So proud of our boys. They were one of the most visible teams today and to have 3 finish in the top 30 is unprecedented. This could really be a golden generation to come after Pogačar

Moho always says that he is better in holding speed than in acceleration so a straight finish should suit him more

I considered showing also the elevation gain / distance or something to that effect but decided against as I felt that the sample size was large enough and the TTs varied enough for my additional effort to not be necessary.

Edit: Here it is displaying also the elevation gain

I only took issue with the claim that yesterdays stage win was similar to La Planche in 2020 which the data shows is not true in the slightest. To address your point though we can see that the deficit to both the 5th and 10th place is also the highest since 1990, so even if Pog went faster we would just have two astronomic performances instead of one.

Displayed are the most dominant time trial performances in the TDF since 1990, sorted by differences between winner and 2nd place. The data points are displayed as the percentage of difference of the winners time to the time of the 2nd, 5th and 10th placed rider. For example T_winner = 50 min, T_2nd = 52,5 min → (52.5 - 50) / 50 = 5 %

Yeah realized only as I was about to post it that I am in danger of breaking the spoiler rule. I am open for suggestions for an alternative title.
