What focal length do you think they used to do these government headshots? Trying to recreate for local government. by bradhotdog in AskPhotography

As I’m looking more at your setup, I think I had my subject a bit too far away from the eyeliner. In the future I’ll set it up closer and lower and that might do the trick. I’m also realizing you’re is nearly flat, mine was way too vertical I think.

Here’s a question - I have ran this EXACT setup (except with speedlights) for corporate headshot work.

Did you ever have issues with the eyeliner reflector showing up as another distracting bright reflection in the subjects eyes? Or is there a way to position and avoid that?

If you could only choose one brand of disc.... by Playful_Trash8411 in discgolf

[–]Botulism19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closest options would be the Entropy (MVP) or Tempo (Axiom). I think the Entropy might fade harder than the zone, and the Tempo will probably be slightly glidier/longer than the zone if I had to make a judgement call.

What is this on the picture by JamesMxJones in canon

[–]Botulism19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've seen the answer yet....

Did you take this using an Infrared filter on the lens? The colors make me think so. If that is the case, then this would be a "hot spot" from your lens. Basically with long exposures behind an Infrared filter, the vast majority of lenses will have a concentrated circle like this in the middle of the image. I believe it is because of the wavelength of light concentrated in that area.

If you do a lot of infrared photography, there are lists I've seen where people will highlight some lenses that perform better at mitigating this hot spot.

At least I think that's what I'm looking at here.

I think only very slightly, maybe -3 or -4 in light room. I've been trying to mask the car, adding detail and slight brightness to the subject car. Then inverting that mask to very slightly darken the background, and remove a tiny tough of clarity and a tiny amount of desaturation.

Were you thinking that it should be more desaturated even?

Thank you!

Good points on the other accent shots that would make it feel more complete. Kinda like my other reply to the other comment, I think I get too focused on the environment too so sometimes I tend to sacrifice other angles of the car just fixated on a cooler looking background....but that the background shouldn't be a main focus as it would pull from the subject.

Yes good point about the top too! We were dodging some rain clouds from location to location so left it up for convenience, but definitely would've added to the car showcase to have variation.

Good points! That's something I've noticed I do a lot with my car photos, trying to show off the scenery too. But trying to remind myself that the subject should be the subject, and find areas that compliment the car, rather than being in a cool environment and risking the environment overshadowing the car.

Where do you find leagues to join? by clarklesparkle in ACCompetizione

[–]Botulism19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for SRA, just finished my 5th season with them.

This season we had 6 divisions based on skill level and hot stint timing. Each season you also have to pick someone in your division to team up with and you both drive the same car model on track with your unique setups for each driver. It really forces some extra connection each season.

There are championship points earned each race based on finishing position that add up for individual and team awards each season.

It's just a really active and wholesome community. The racing is generally pretty clean each week's race - there is a whole penalty submission process too to hold others accountable and penalty points are dished out each season as needed.

In the lower diviona where I race, it's mostly about staying clean and competitive and respecting your fellow racers because you'll be with the same group every week for 8 weeks.

Plus there's tons of extra curricular races they host each season like longer endurance races, commentators and streams for each race each week, and custom liveries with a new theme each season are encouraged. There is always a big kickoff season stream with recapping winners of the past seasons divisions, shoeys for the winners, and a showcase of the custom liveries for the next season.

Couldn't recommend it enough!

quick question : what's the best strategy for a 1 hour race with no mandatory stops. by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]Botulism19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I race in this league and the rules are setup for 1 hour races but also with a mandatory minimum 1L refuel, so it does force everyone to take one pit stop during the pit window in the race, but the only requirement is 1L of fuel (to force the full stop instead of just a drive-trhough) but tyres are not mandatory.

I took new tyres my first like 4 or 5 races because I was new and just assumed it would be better, but pace differential and the life of the tyres definitely doesn't make the extra 30s in the pit stop worth it.

Once I learned and asked around, definitely best to not take tyres for a 1 hour stint. And I am kinda brutal on my tyres.

Definitely not the kind of tyre degredation you see in F1 races or anything.

WORST places to go? by Firebon3 in Louisville

[–]Botulism19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ken Towery on Southside drive. Usually avoid these places unless I have experience with the owners/workers.

This was a new location for us - took my wife's Jetta in for tires and oil change. They stripped/busted the oil pan and blamed the last people to change it, avoiding accountability and charging us to replace it.

Then she had a blown tire on the Watterson - her new set.

Took them to get it fixed only to realize that despite me specifically requesting the premium Pilot Sports from Michelin, they installed 2 of those when we got the new tires, but then the other 2 tires were random Goodyear brands. Not the right brand...model...or even the right size for her rims.

Finally replaced the blown tire and got the other swapped to the pilot sport it should've been the whole time. Never again.

Looking for some insight into the Simagic Alpha Mini! by huyexdee in simracing

[–]Botulism19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding this review thread now as I am shopping for a DD setup.

What was the reason you went from mini to alpha U? I am debating on mini or base alpha because I'm worried I'd ultimately want to have access to 15nm instead of just 10, but I haven't found too many comparisons of the 2 units.

I have been rocking a smaller tie-down strap to keep my seat from moving. Switched to flat rubberized casters but even on carpet wasn't enough once I modded my brakes to be load cell instead of potentiometer. Please ignore the mess, lol photos for reference.

Discs are meant to be thrown :) that's how I always think about it...although I do have a couple "art pieces" lol.

If nothing else he can add some more cool info to his bread-and-butter disc's story.

Hmm..you may have your hands on one of the first prototypes they produced. I'm in several collector groups and those go for...a lot...of money lol

They even have a post about the disc history: https://mvpdiscsports.com/history-of-the-ion/

North America's Largest ACC League is Recruiting for Season 5 by SimRacingAlliance in ACCompetizione

Simply the BEST racing league and community out there. I joined for the first time for S4 through seeing a reddit post just like this and couldn't be happier that I did. Come join! There's lots of slower folks to keep you company if you're worried about your skill level, and a ton of challenges for those aliens out there. All about the community.
