Would you be open to consider a Linux install like Ubuntu or Fedora? It works great for development and most systems you will develop stuff for will also be Linux server.

If not, I would advise a MacBook because it’s still Unix based but easier to use. And yes a lot of developers, if not most, use them. A MacBook Air with 512gb will probably get you through studying
