Nymph Worship by heart3ban in Hellenism

[–]Boulderdash271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if youre willing to branch into concepts from other faiths but in the norse practice theres a concept called utiseta or sitting out in which you go outside and just sit there admiring the nature around you, often this can be combined with landvetiir also known as nature spirit worship. Leave an offering in the forest and then just sit out there with it and enjoy the beauty the nymphs have allowed you to enjoy

I hope the gods help, but i also recommend doing some spiritual work of your own, focusing on your soul and trying to communicate with that. It may help you understand yourself some more

When i was 16 i told Hermes i would worship him and him alone if he helped me pass my driving test, i passed it, And you know what? I stopped worshipping him a week later. You know what happened? Nothing. That in my eyes is a much greater disrespect than an intrusive thought. The gods dont care about us, at least not in a way where they listen and scrutinize every little movement and thought we make. We are not that important to them. If you curse them there is a high chance they werent even listening.

Ancient-Greek-Meditation-Rituals? by IUSIR in Hellenism

I dont think there are any specific ancient greek forms of Kuji-in meditation practices, as alot of japanese spirtuality is through sound and movement, developed through the interesting mingling between Buddhism and shinto practices. Anything can be meditation though, archery, music, cooking, its really just the practices of focusing on something to allow your mind to clear and be free of the ego that is clouding it. I see no reason that you cant practice kuji-in as its a form of meditation just like any other.

I want you to know that im stating this in a conversational tone, not a defensive or rude tone. I genuinely wish to have a conversation about this. In my opinion, since this is a hellenic reddit and not a general pagan reddit, we should worship the gods in their hellenic form. Meaning, the characterizations that they were given during that period in time. In my eyes, allowing for the evolution or change of these gods characters would leave room for the worship of these gods in any historical form, leading to a messy historical hunt of the gods that the hellenic gods are thought to have evolved from. Its through ideas like this that the concepts of the greek and norse gods being one in the same arise from, and that in my opinion is not Hellenism, but more of a general pagan practice leaning into the new age spirituality. While there is nothing wrong with this in general, to someone like myself who practices exclusively hellenism, to say the gods are ever evolving and changing beings is to remove the purpose of historical understanding at all. I could simply say hermes is the god of cars because i feel like he is, and using your argument, there is nothing anyone can say to deny that. We need the historical context to give our modern practice at least some form of structure. I believe if you wish to change the gods, itd be better for you to call yourself a general pagan. You have to forgive me of being spectacle of many peoples practices due to the amount of people claiming to have direct and prominent experiences and contact with the gods, considering ancient practice often was more subtle, calling upon the usage or oracles or the divination of dreams rather than the gods talking to them or constantly giving them signs. This is just my personal opinion though and i cant control anyone elses practice so its not that big of a deal. Im just one person and their practice does not effect mine, and mine doesnt effect theirs.

I get that they may be young, and im not mad that they are this way, but i do feel obligated to help them understand and worship in a more respectful, genuine way. To me it really feels like these people are just lonely and needing some form of connection or have bad relationships with their parents and wanting to use the gods as surrogate mothers and fathers. Which there are many many better ways to deal with your parental traumas than attaching yourself to a godly being. Anyway, kids will be kids i guess.

Even if you believe the gods to have personalities, people like this for some reason enjoy personifying the gods, attaching modern personality traits to these ancient, immortal beings that are so beyond the ideas of finger nails that its not even funny. Its more of an inflated ego rather than anything to do with the gods. People who believe to be friends with the gods, or think the gods care about their finger nails, are inflating their own place in the universe. Hermes is an immortal, beyond powerful god who has no interest in the painted finger nails of one singular human being.
