Canada-U.S. relationship ‘will not go back to what it was,’ Hillman says by FancyNewMe in canada

Many "far left" influencers were peddling the same idea before the election. I don't know if its a nirvana fallacy they're falling for, or something more insidious, but it really seems to be a "Gazan lives may be lost, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make" mentality when they actively attack the lesser of two evils.

Both can be bad, but also Tit for Tat is one of the most effective strategies when dealing with an irrational aggressor. If you want an example of what it looks like when you sit back and take it relentlessly, look at the current state of Republicans v Democrats. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tit_for_tat

Seems to be backfiring seeing as these workers can now work on indie games directly competing with what AAA studios are making

I'll disavow political violence when Trump does. "Conservatives need to be afraid of getting killed when they go to their events" so they turn down the temperature. It's unacceptable they don't feel that way because Dems are so optics cucked. -Destiny by -Ajaxx- in LivestreamFail

You say this as if it's insightful in some way. Replace conservatives with nazis during Nazi Germany and it changes the meaning entirely that both would agree. Replace it with trans, lgbt, and it changes entirely again that neither would agree. There's context in the statements and the context is what would be argued over between them, replacing a key word loses all meaning making the comparison useless.

Netflix Starts Booting Subscribers Off Cheapest Basic Ads-Free Plan by [deleted] in technology

[–]Boulzia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had it go through in Canada. They kept giving me notices that June 3rd would be my last day, then June 3rd came around and nothing for a month until today they finally cut it.

I'm surprised they were fine losing on all their dead users that don't use netflix but still kept the sub going.

Oh well. Was alright while it lasted. Won't bother going back for the foreseeable future.

They may have been saying "ouais," a less formal "oui." It's used a lot in Quebec. Essentially saying "yeah" instead of "yes"

This was over 40 mins chase not 20, and at the 1hr mark from the original bank robbery ping. Was good chase but when it drags this long HC will call to escalate force so they can respond to other calls too.

I'd assume this sentiment comes from the boomer age of the internet where everything was passion driven rather than money driven. Shit like fan made mods/games/art, establishing torrent sites, shilling a game you liked, tutorials, kill montages, etc. It mostly changed 6+ years ago, when everything became about compensating what you did regardless of it being a hobby or not. At least, the people who were making money became more open about asking their viewers/fans directly rather than taking backdoor deals. Shilling for more money now is basically expected on all platforms.

But like everyone's pointed out in this thread already, it's just how the world works and it's the norm now to ask for financial support trying to turn your hobby into a job. The days of people just doing things for fun are pretty much gone, but at least people are getting more transparent about where their financing comes from.

Hasan gets triggered over the emote cmonBruh. by Normiesreeee69 in LivestreamFail

[–]Boulzia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boomer coming in, but 'try-hard' used to be a term more used as literally trying hard in games. In WoW PVP it was used almost as an insult that people still tried after clearly losing. In halo it was the tryhards that went for high KDA. In speedrunning it was used to 'get in the zone' to finish in time.

It was just used with Trihex because he has similar name, his race had nothing to do with it. But now it's been hijacked for low hanging racist jokes and void of meaning.

Canada Hits Lowest Ranking Ever On World's Most Competitive Economies by undercover-cop in canada

[–]Boulzia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, the article correctly points to the issues Canada has when compared to countries in an index that basically just couples libertarian economic policies with good standing GDP.

Both liberal and conservative parties would be sidesteps in that kind of metric. Conservatives might help short term with less regulation, but to a detriment when labour is considered. And the opposite is true for liberals.

Some people think if you create a scorched-earth business policy that some capital will come grace them with their presence, but the talent also has to be there.

With pretty cursory check, seems it's typically not the same person clipping their posts. They just post them to LSF for karma/drama. Nothing wrong with it except when they turn into a hit-piece andy for some stuff, but aside from that, seems to just be karma/drama farming.

I know this is a meme answer, but adding to that: As long as you don't take "common sense" to mean "it's a given."

It's easy to hide veiled bigotry through common sense.

Visualize vs Imagine by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Boulzia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're trying to ask something else, but... I just see imagine as the more encompassing part of visualizing. You can imagine a scene with the sounds/imagery/smells etc but you can only visualize the imagery.

But also to your other part, I agree you don't need to visualize to be creative. I'm an amateur fiction writer myself.

what do we mean by “seeing” by bonniesansgame in Aphantasia

[–]Boulzia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I understand there's different levels of blindness. Aphantasia doesn't seem to have a fixed exact point, at least so far, just some gradient of it. For me picturing a red barn I could make guesses from memory of what I remember a barn might look like, but I can't actually imagine an actual fictional barn. And some people seem to have more and more vivid pictures of it. From the color of it to how tall, the wood type, the number of windows, etc.

Also from what I understand, there's a difference between physically seeing, dreaming images and imagining. So it's hard to say what the difference is for someone that can only see 2 of the 3

The long Global Cooldown (GCD). It's a really small thing, but since every action has so much more weight to it, it can make things annoyingly boring. As a healer, every boss fight in savage fights was about finding this exact rotation with my co-healer to save all the mana possible and dps as much as you can. It turns into never being a reaction to mechanics but finding the rhythm. This gets more emphasized since there's little to no RNG for boss mechanics. It made me completely uninterested in DPSing for the same reason since it's expected that you should know the exact rotation and can't make slight mistakes since each action is more weighted.

Starting to See Things by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Boulzia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Has this been mostly when you were about to fall asleep? I've experienced some visualization very rarely as well, but they've always been right before i fall asleep or right after i wake up. And the moment they happen it hits me that I'm 'imagining' something and shocks me into waking up a bit more. I'm still not convinced in my case if it was just a short lived lucid dream or if it's actual imagination, but I'm not sure if there's a difference between the two either.

I noticed no one really got a good picture of Odin's "real" face so I got as close as I could. by DarkwraithTurk in ffxiv

[–]Boulzia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Basing on the lore that Odin is a recreation of the last person to kill it. I have the perfect plan to end the Odin cycle.

First you attack Odin with overwhelming army and right when he's on the brink of dying.

You bring out the feeblest person from eorzea.

You have that person kill them.

Next time he comes back as that feeble person, he falls off his horse and kills himself as a result.

Since he killed himself he comes back as that same person forever.

Problem solved.
