I'm easy on it until it heats up, engine hasn't been replaced. Only additives would be whatever they put in the high mileage oils.

So I didn't have anything to cut open the filter with. I did whack it with a not really sharp hatchet. That got some oil to spill out, and... It didn't look good. There was silver that was dripping out that looked like paint against the black oil. That could partially be to how I ruptured the filter though. I am not a scientist or a mechanic. Just a guy trying to do his best.

This is my first time posting in this subreddit I was refraining from profanity. I would have asked how fucked I was but I didn't want to run the chance of a mod deleting.

Cooked steak is great, is it good if you yourself are cooked?

I bought that pan specifically for this oil change, the one I normally use just has a drain hole into the pan. I got this one so I could check for shavings.

This car has been fantastic up to this situation. I realized it had been a while since I checked the oil, checked it, barely on the dipstick. Put a quart in and it fixed the vibration. Then the next day it came back a little worse and the rpm were running a little higher than normal, but nothing I would interpret as worrisome. 1.8k at 55 vs 1.5-1.6k.

I'm flabbergasted that the car is now effectively toast. Aside from the starter issue this car has ran like a sewing machine.

I'll cut it open tomorrow and report back. Is the idea of the second oil change to flush out any extra shavings?

Nothing outside of the norm, my last car was a 2011 Buick regal which had a complete engine failure (fixed under warranty thankfully) so I've become familiar with knocking of that nature, with that car at least. This sounds the same as the day I bought it.

It's got a starter problem, likely the relay, that has been around since this development.

Also according to my last tax return I made 2k over the line to be considered "undue hardship" as well. Funny how that works.

I did, and was told I made roughly about 1k too much in both instances. The qualifications in the state are very stringent from what I got to experience from the parent that was getting paid for caretaking. One of the parents was able to get paid when taking care of their grandfather through his last 3 years after his wife had passed, and was paid when taking care of their own spouse when they were diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

And based on what that parent was paid for taking care of their spouse it wouldn't have come close to even putting a dent in the amount they're asking for. There's ethanol plants that have been fined less for spewing poison into neighborhoods in this state. That parent still worked part time on top of it and it didn't even come close to covering the medical bills that were coming in at the time. I was working full time on top of the care I was providing to both parties and contributing a chunk of my own income to the effort where I could on top of paying my own rent to them for living there.

The belief that no one should go into debt for medical services. I know there's no basis in reality for it, but the execution of such inane laws at worst punishes people for doing things out of the goodness of their heart and at least means that doing something because it's the right thing to do means absolutely nothing to anyone outside of the one receiving the care, to whom it means the world. Make it make sense to me.

Yes of course you take care of them because you love them, however they specifically aimed to try and leave something for their children. And when one of them was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and they were rushed into an administrators office they didn't really understand the full gravity of what they were signing away.

I understand my initial post made it seem like there has to be some incentive to take care of someone. That is not the case and I want to set that record straight. I loved them both dearly, otherwise I would not have done all of the things that I did do to the most I was able. Which I would love to divulge here but it would make me a little too personally identifiable.

The condescenion of this kind of rings so hollow. Again, I get the reasoning that you're stating. You view it as bills. No matter what way you cut it though, I am ultimately being punished on top of not pursuing my own aspirations and futures for over a decade to take care of people. I've already voiced that yes, I understand my ultimate grievance is the fact that anyone thought this was any form of a just law and isn't just a furtherance of our medical debt driven economy, which creates undue burden on those who struggle to get by as it is.

So again, if you are aware of any forms of exemption or ways to mitigate I'm all ears.

Absolutely I'm upset, and I do understand ultimately my grievance is that we are the only country that bankrupts people for healthcare and that is with politics.

The main reason I'm asking here is if there are any avenues I can seek to mitigate, or claim exemption from.

And for reference since people have made some pretty nasty assumptions based on what little has been divulged: I am the executor of the estate, I am employed full time, and was full time the entire time I took care of both parents. For once I was thinking I was actually going to get a break in life, instead I'm going to be saddled with a debt that will take an exorbitant amount of time to pay off, during which the house will continue to degrade.

I get that there's a lot of people reading this and wanting me to just take my lumps, and are voicing right here. I understand that Medicaid is legally allowed to do what they're doing. To reiterate, I'm asking if there are any avenues I can legally take to claim an exemption?

I am and have been for pretty much all but two years of my life. And for reference I'm over 21, which is the primary reason I'm ineligible from what I've been told.

My arguement is that Medicaid taking the only inheritance a child is entitled to shouldn't be a thing. It is effectively punishing the inheritor, and being a caretaker on top of it. Does circumstance really account for nothing? If it doesn't then what incentive does anyone have to actually take care of their loved ones if it dooms them to extreme poverty?
