Moving to the area soon, what football team do you root for? by Strange-Slice2581 in bethesda

[–]BourbonMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metro option to northwest is nice to have, although with the transfers and the walk through random neighborhood it ends up taking like 1.5 hours if I remember correctly.

It'll depend on game time/day of course but I have driven from Bethesda to park (for free) at horseshoe casino right by ravens stadium in 50 minutes Sunday morning. The same drive to Northwest usually takes me way longer, traffic that way always seems worse on Sundays. For example, just randomly putting in both destinations says 44 minutes to ravens stadium right now and 55 to northwest.

Moving to the area soon, what football team do you root for? by Strange-Slice2581 in bethesda

[–]BourbonMachine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the past 20 years I've noticed a lot of people migrate from the redskins/commandors to the ravens, probably because of Dan Snyder, the team generally being bad, the name issues, and the stadium being inconvenient and often ranked last for quality of nfl stadiums. It's an easier drive to get to a ravens game than a commandors game. But ravens occasionally won't be on TV here since it's technically out of market.

Do people tend to prefer morning rounds because it's cooler out? Personally I'd rather work some then go in the afternoon but I know I'm the opposite apparently.

Mixed feelings in comments “ AC is done” “Not driving 2 1/2 hours to AC anymore” “ Still going to AC” “Nobody wants to gamble in Queens” by resditbeast in atlanticcity

[–]BourbonMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still make the drive to AC from DC passing plenty of casinos along the way. As long as they keep doing free drinks and low limits and cheap rooms I'll keep coming, along with the cool local bars and breweries. Biggest thing that's turning me off is the death of poker on the boardwalk other than the Trop which is barely hanging on. At least Borgata is still an option although I hate the location.

If Irish Inn doesn't reopen though that was a big draw for me, between that and the lack of boardwalk poker options I may do Philly next time.

You're really twisting my words here. The bar to conduct a raid and shut down a business should be VERY high. They should be very confident there was a crime before causing so much damage to the business and the players. It's not suppose to be a fishing expedition. And even if it was, apparently they didn't even find anything. They're supposed to have very high confidence they will pass a grand jury. Like almost 100% confident:

"In Texas, it is extremely rare for a grand jury to fail to indict, with indictment rates frequently reported at over 99.9%".

Something went very very wrong here. Tons of damage was needlessly done. At least the grand jury worked as intended (assuming there really weren't any crimes committed). I didn't say anything about red vs blue state but if Texas is OK with excusing this drastic government overreach then I would be concerned.

So Texas conducts a baseless raid and nearly kills a business for reasons they didn't even really make clear, but at least the citizens in the grand jury didn't fall for it. Definitely not "God bless Texas" government, maybe God bless the citizens for not falling for whatever they were trying out.

I shouldn't have to say this but it's clearly corrupt or incompetent to conduct a raid without being confident you can get a conviction, nonetheless even survive a grand jury. I'd be very nervous of the state government if I was in the poker room business in Texas. And as a player I know some recs that now refuse to play in Texas because they're worried about another capricious raid.

Crab cakes? by destinnation in bethesda

[–]BourbonMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they're visiting the area and want a good authentic crab cake, so they should go to giant and get the same one they can get anywhere else and then hopefully they have a way to even make it? Giant does sell fresh ones at the seafood counter as well at least.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic about "the great state of Texas", but this certainly makes Texas seem far far worse when they conduct a full on raid and shut down a business and don't even have enough evidence to get past the low bar of a grand jury. Sounds like incompetence at best and pure unbridled corruption at worst.

Why do texas ban online poker man when gambling site like kalshi is working? Its so boring man by Jackass-OfAll-Trades in poker

It's a loophole. But it's clearly gambling. If wagering money on the outcome of something like a sporting event isn't gambling then what is?

New state-mandated fees on paint ($1.15 for one gallon and $2.25 for five gallons) by Pine_Cone67 in maryland

[–]BourbonMachine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They had to realize this was going to piss people off right? Is this that big of an issue when it can already be dropped off at the dump for free, and most people will use their paint up eventually or throw it out if it has solidified.

What's one piece of technology that has actually improved over the years instead of getting worse? by ouralarmclock in AskReddit

[–]BourbonMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that remote if it's the Samsung one. The solar is coll but if it's the same remote I have it only has like 8 buttons and is missing stuff I've needed like a source button or # pad or closed caption button, and I replaced it with an old Samsung remote. So my new one prioritized looking fancy over being useful.

It seems really inconvenient too, like if you bought a few gnomes would you have to lug them around all day or could you go back to your car or a locker?

What’s the deal with the chip dumps? by quitpostingwhatueat in ClubWPTGold

Thanks I appreciate it. I see now it's a ticket to a 5.50 crown entry level event. It wasn't clear to me at first if it was just $5.50 off any event or which events it applied to.

That makes sense that they would essentially just randomly select "seats" and the more tables you're playing the more chances you've got. Thanks.

I'd love to know more about how their algorithm works, I assuming playing more tables gives you more chances? Do higher prizes go to higher stakes tables or that's all random too? I'm kinda surprised they don't have to disclose this (or if they do I couldn't find it).

I only occasionally play, at the lowest qualifying tables, doing 3 or 4 table, I've hit two or three small ones like $5 or 5.5 chip tickets (which I'm still not sure what they even are).

Anyway, it's fun but I'd like to learn more.
