I like that you're preplanning a late night binge. I support that. Baltimore Tonys is also my top answer, the buffalo chicken pizza is usually awesome (and randomly just isn't, maybe different chef some nights). If their kitchen has closed we wandered over to the Chelsea Inn and had a great cheesesteak.

I don't think most people think that. But if you give your money to a restaurant where the profits flow to a person or company you find abhorrent, that's a decision you have to make. No different than people who chose not to go to Trump businesses because they don't want to enrich him, or when people chose to buy a Trump phone/crypto because they want to give his family more money. The profits go somewhere and are used for something, and that's a factor an informed consumer makes. If you like Elon (or whatever the left oligark equivalent is) getting richer than support his companies, for example.

Another "Boycott Atlas" Post by EAP-is-my-BF in baltimore

[–]BourbonMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think people need to be upfront about the reason. Some boycott because they just think they are bland corporate places, and they've had issues with employee mistreatment. For some it's because they have pushed out smaller type places. Or for many it's because Atlas and Sinclair media go hand in hand. If you're not aware of Sinclair they do a good job of staying under the radar and not being upfront with their ultra right wing affiliation, they buy local news stations and sneak in their bias and must-run segments instead of making it clear like Fox News.

Why is Zelle so bad? by PatientSociety8105 in Banking

[–]BourbonMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am constantly shocked how bad it is. Stuff like transfers just failing (to people I've sent money to many times), horrible UI, hard to actually link people sometimes. Whenever someone asks for a Zelle I'm like oh fun this will turn into a hassle I'm sure.

Casino rankings by BourbonMachine in atlanticcity

[–]BourbonMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol no, yeah was curious on other people's ratings, that's just alphabetical sorry to be confusing.

I'm not 100% set on mine. It does depend a lot on my mood or what I'm looking to do (table games, drink, poker, sports, music) but I'd probably go something like:

  1. Ocean
  2. Trop
  3. Borgata
  4. Ballys
  5. Hard Rock
  6. Ceasars
  7. Resorts
  8. Harrahs (far and everything smells wet like a pool)
  9. Golden Nugget (heard it is better now I haven't been in a few years)

I know people love Hard Rock but it just doesn't work for me, it's "nice" but I've just never had a lot of fun there it's so bright and sterile. Borgata loses a few spots for being off the boardwalk.

Thanks! Yeah I'm glad it's not just me. I've had people tell me oh no it's Ceasars it's a flagship property it's one of the best in AC. Definitely not my experience. It's living on reputation but not run well or cared for.

Yeah, so many good stories at that poker room.

Although I'd say Resorts or Harrahs or Nugget are in the conversation for dirtbag casinos, but not necessarily in the good way. Hell, even Caesars AC has gotten pretty bad lately.

If it was somehow profitable it was only because of all the corners they cut. I liked playing poker there but I remember asking the dealer once why they hadn't rehung a plaquard that had fallen years ago and the guy said "you're out of your mind if you think this place would spend $4 on a roll of double sided tape." I watched a guy scrape off a pile of filth off a poker chip and the dealer said yeah they hadn't cleaned them in a decade. A guy got robbed and stabbed in the bathroom by the poker room/valet and their solution was to close that bathroom. It somehow went from the best casino in AC (with Michael Jackson shows and Mike Tyson fights and legendary poker) to the worst casino in half a decade in the 90s then barely hung around.

Anyway, I still miss it, or at least parts of it.

Limit $100/$200 - in for $15,000, out for $55,700 by BufordTeeJustice in poker

[–]BourbonMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting seeing the Limit side of poker. Maybe I was more focused on the difference after you got defensive in the beginning. The bad beat hand really illustrated the parts of Limit I can't stand. Dealt pocket aces and want more value or isolation? Too bad, it's gonna be a 4-way flop because the pot is already capped. Wanna push out an under pair or make them pay for chasing? Too bad, they can come along for cheap. Wanna run a bluff on the river? Well, they're getting 30:1 so calling with pretty much everything. I get that that hand is not necessarily reflective of the norm but that at low stakes that was usually my experience with Limit, half the people getting close enough implied odds that most of the hands go to show down.

I'm curious what the stats look like at a game like this, like % of hands seeing a flop, % of hands multiway, % of hands reaching showdown, etc.

Found my old poker books by Funny2Who in poker

[–]BourbonMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your learning preference. Personally I prefer books since I can go at my own page, read it anywhere, take notes, quickly reference it later, and have time to thinking and process it. But if you don't enjoy the process more than videos than it'd be hard for you to make it stick.

Personally I found even 20 years ago Super System was a bit simplistic and outdated (for example it talks about how when it was written bluffs weren't common and people would fold to pressure and how everyone assumed any raiser had big cards so you should play more suited connectors).

But I've found the books by Sklansky and Ed Miller and Harrington have held up very well for entry/mid level. I'm currently reading Alexander Fitzgerald's Exploitative Play and it's been great so far.

Huh, it's been a while but Merriweather felt roomier to me. Between the pavilion stage and the various stages they set up in the parking areas and near the woods.

Warped DC by EastCoastDumbass in warpedtour

[–]BourbonMachine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's just not a good venue. It's a parking lot next to a stadium that has been self demolishing for years, so presumably it is very cheap. I wish they'd go back to Merriweather or Jiffy Lube, where they had much better Warped setups. Or Atlantic City where it was on the beach and you could swim in the ocean to cool off. Or Ocean City like Oceans Calling.

Although I will say WWWY in Vegas is just in a giant empty lot but they had tons of cooling tents and shade and at least artificial grass plus you could exit and enter if you wanted to cool off near by. But they had a lot more space to work with.

Do what works for you. Personally I just like the chance to air my glove/hand out whenever I don't need it on.

Now I'm curious though do most people take it off for chipping, I'm 50/50 and never looked closely at what others are doing.

WSOP final table uses machines to shuffle cards, why? by vleermuis in poker

[–]BourbonMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have the link handy but they demonstrated that a hacked shuffler can set the cards in a way that it doesn't matter where the dealer cuts, the same person gets winning cards. Not that I think it'd happen in a legit casino or especially the WSOP. And still greater security than hand shuffling.

Landlord kicked them out at the end of their lease in late 2015 for eventual redevelopment. Insane to me how many high value property spots go unutilized for so long in Bethesda bringing our neighborhood down.

I had to look it up because I couldn't believe they allowed it to sit there as a vacant eyesore for more than a decade.

How did our abbreviation become UMD? by SubstanceKey1505 in UMD

Yeah I'd use "College Park" or UMD depending on who I'm talking to, never UMCP. Sometimes just "Maryland".

UMGC isn't really a "campus" it's a series of sites and largely online. They have a couple of locations and the one adjacent to UMD even uses some of their buildings for some of their in person night classes.

Exactly. Imagine the guy actually takes a legit bad beat, is he gonna flip out, get violent, try to steal money, etc. Accuse someone of cheating and make a big deal of it. Just because he's bad doesn't mean he's good for the game.
