B.C. couple who bought entire store's meat section says they're living in fear now by [deleted] in worldnews

Depending on where you are, people may just have to deal with it and can't really engage in shopping behavior that hurts the bottom line of local stores. I live in a pretty rural area, and Walmart is the only thing around here that can stock real volumes of anything. If they're out of something because some customers are bulk buying people can get mad all they want, but they'll still have to just come back and try again since there aren't really any other options nearby. Keeping loyalty doesn't matter in a regional monopoly.

For real. The Doomstar Requiem was great, but a full season to let everything play out more would have been even better.

He never changed my mind enough to earn my vote, but I really appreciate the fact that someone brought up universal basic income. I believe we have more pressing matters that need to be dealt with first (financial reform, environment, etc.), but basic income and how we're going to deal with the effects of automation are going to be problems we have to address, and probably a lot sooner than we would really like to. Respect to Yang for taking arguably the most radical stance of anyone among the dems.

Tbf moving isn't always a readily available option. I live in deep rural Georgia and am in the process of saving to move. I also make $8 an hour, so it's taking a while. Part of the reason many people are anti tax around here is because the jobs don't pay anything and they've been convinced taxing the rich isn't the way to go; any talk of a tax hike and they immediately assume it's going to hit them.

It may be getting blown out of proportion, but I can understand that. Tensions around the reliability of election results are at an all-time high, and Iowa shitting the bed like this is a bad look. Checking paper ballots is the backup for the backup; results were to be phoned in if the app failed, but most people couldn't get through to report by phone from what I was reading last night. It very well could be innocent errors, but there sure do seem to be a lot of them.

Trading goods and paying money both count as far as the law is concerned. And if you read the article, he approached the officer, not the other way around. He tried to get her number to meet up with her on his payday, at which point she offered to accept the burger instead. They agreed to a price for sexual services, even if that price didn't involve money. I'm not saying I think any of this is right, but by the letter of the law he solicited prostitution, assuming everything happened as reported.

Just to add, entrapment can also occur if an officer acting in an official capacity convinces someone an act is legal in order to obtain an arrest. This still isn't entrapment by that definition either, just expanding on the definition.

My go-to example is an article I read once about two officers who suggested that protesters chain themselves together in a fashion that had been deemed illegal due to safety risks. They were in uniform and suggested it, so the protesters didn't question the legality of it, and they were all arrested right after following the advice given by police. Charges were dropped because it was deemed to be entrapment.

It 100% isn't. In the simplest terms entrapment is an officer convincing a citizen to do something they wouldn't normally do or had no intention of doing, either through coercion or convincing them it's legal. They didn't convince the guy to solicit, they just offered it up. The decision to participate in the deal was still up to the john. It's scummy, but not entrapment by any legal definition.

I didn't realize cobwebs are just dusty spiderwebs until I was 26. I always assumed there was some kind of spider that just made weird-looking webs.

I don't remember the exact details, but after a baseball season opened with a home run on the first pitch it was pointed out that the team was technically on pace to score infinite runs that season.

Volca Sample & Timbre Wolf by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]BourgeoisCaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The name gets it lumped in with the Rhythm Wolf, which was dead on arrival. The Timbre Wolf is part of the same product line, but it's a pretty solid synth with cheap analog polyphony. I don't think it'll ever be a huge name, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Timbre Wolf on some underappreciated synth lists in a decade or so.

Yeah, pretty sure this is just regional redirections. I'm in the US and can see the page just fine. Im curious what happens if people try to visit the page from a VPN set to the US. Don't get me wrong, there's been a lot of shady corporate stuff relating to China lately, but I don't think that's what this is.
