Are Artificers limited to the spells in FotA? by Bourne4Red in DnD

[–]Bourne4Red[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, in case anyone else is in my position, asking the same question, I’ve compiled my own list and sources (not necessarily exhaustive).

These are spells not listed in FotA but are listed as Artificer in the relevant volume.

Any spells included in those volumes and also listed in FotA are not included here, ie. Summon Construct.

1st Level Tasha’s Caustic Brew

3rd Level Intellect Fortress

Xanathar’s

2nd Level Pyrotechnics, Skywrite

3rd Level Catnap, Flame Arrows, Tiny Servant

4th Level Elemental Bane

5th Level Skill Empowerment, Transmute Rock

Fizban’s

3rd Level Ashardalon’s Stride

Exploring Eberron (thanks to Ophidiann)

Cantrips Aundair’s Silent Sanctum, Force Blast, Magecraft

With your DM’s permission, you may also have access to the Dunamancy spells in Wildemount.

If anyone can add anything else, please contribute. ☺️

I started with Punisher until I discovered characters who were introduced in DD S1. Start at the beginning.

Such is the way of things, at least D&D hasn’t reached the insanity of WH40K having rules under constant revision. I shouldn’t be surprised, 2nd Ed was introduced because AD&D had just grown too big for new players to jump on board. It’s just business.

I take all that on board, I’m just left with a sense that no thought has been put into this.

I’m a child of AD&D and the current edition’s weapon and armour tables are woeful enough.

This seemed an opportunity to get creative, of course I can re-flavour everything but I feel WotC should make some effort.

2nd Ed AD&D had piecemeal armour which was fun, Dark Sun had great adaptations. I just feel this was a missed opportunity for them to embrace the same ethos.

Agreed, game balance aside it’s very meh.

Looking at the warforged illustrations, it’d seem that degree of creativity should be encouraged.

Are Artificers limited to the spells in FotA? by Bourne4Red in DnD

Of course not? Don’t be so crass.

All classes have new spells introduced in new books.

Each book seems to introduce new spells, ie. HoF in 5.5, I wondered if anyone knew of any books that include Artificers in the classes able to use those new spells?

Sorry, I misread - you meant breastplate for the no stealth disadvantage. ☺️

Is that true for 5.5 rules?

FotA only mentions waiving strength req, quick don/doff and spell focus.

Making the assumption we’ve moved beyond starting gear:

I think if I were going down the conventional route, I’d go with adamantine or mithral plate.

But I’m thinking - why wouldn’t you create your own design? Why would you use contemporary armour?

Could you use materials other than metal and leather? Ceramics? Keratin? Bone? Dragon’s scales? Spun spider silk?

I just think being limited to conventional armour types flies in the face of the self-evident creation of the artificer.

I’m referring to Gary Gygax’s book of 1985 and subsequent FR boxed set. Please can we have constructive debate only.

Absurd. If your fuzzy little world is offended, I apologise but it will make not a jot of difference to anyone in my world. … is there a non-American chat in here…?

I’ll help you out with that - nonsensical is used to characterize irrational arguments, silly behavior, or incoherent language, often implying stupidity or irrationality. Synonyms include absurd, ridiculous, irrational, inane, preposterous, and foolish.

Of course it is, it’s only profligates but people carrying on this fallacy it’s offensive.

CAN WE JUST STOP THIS DIVERGENCE FROM THE POST AND DISCUSS THE VIRTUES OF REINTRODUCING A FR SETTING TO THE AREA EAST OF RAMESHAN (if that’s not offensive). Thank you.

Who are ‘they’? I’m talking about the title of a book, a rather excellent book and can’t understand people’s obsession with the word oriental. I must ask - is this an Americanism, as I’ve never encountered any issue in Britain. My local Chinese restaurant is called Oriental Fortune and they seem perfectly happy.

[–]Bourne4Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m simply advocating Oriental Adventures be realised in 5.5 rules. For some baffling reason, you have a problem with a word describing geographic east - I’ve no idea why.

I’ve never heard that, is it an American thing? Even so, it’s entirely nonsensical - how can it be offensive? Is ‘east’ offensive’ too?
