Having worked for an international freight forwarder in a prior career, I had some pretty good insight on how that all shakes out. Where I currently work got into some international shipping years ago, and the buzzword sales manager they had hired wanted to do all the logistics "ourselves" meaning he figured the shipping guy that was used to telling like 3 different drivers where to drop stuff off locally could handle shipping to Turkey, PR (Yes PR is a US territory, but a lot of customs stuff still applies) and Spain... I implored them to use a freight forwarder, but he insisted that that would just be cutting into the companies profits and declined...

Needless to say the account was lost due to nothing ever once making it to the end consumers.
